Chapter 709 Lily Fainted
This was Lily's first time seeing Finnegan drunk.
"What kind of dinner was it tonight? Why did he drink so much?" Lily could smell the alcohol before she even got close.
"Mr. Walker, Mr. Hawthorne, and Joe had dinner with him," Atticus explained. "Ever since you came back, Mr. Abbott's been different. He closed a big deal today, so he probably had a few extra drinks to celebrate."
"Thanks. I'll take care of him. You should head home early," Lily said.
"Okay." Atticus, understanding the situation, didn't want to be a third wheel.
After Atticus left, Lily grabbed a pillow to prop up Finnegan's head and fetched a blanket to cover him.
"Ophelia, Ophelia," Finnegan mumbled in his sleep.
"I'm here." Lily reached out her hand, and Finnegan instinctively grabbed it.
Only then did Finnegan settle down, lying quietly for a while.
Lily didn't disturb him, just sat beside him, keeping him company.
She undisturbedly watched Finnegan; it was the first time she had looked at him so closely.
He was really handsome and perfect.
Lily couldn't help but reach out to touch his face. Just then, Finnegan woke up, looked at Lily, and smiled, "Ophelia."
Lily withdrew her hand. "You're awake. I'll get you some water."
Finnegan held her hand tightly, gazing at her lovingly. "Ophelia, I miss you."
Lily's heart skipped a beat. Usually, Finnegan was respectful and restrained his emotions.
Alcohol could lower people's self-control, and looking at his wife in front of him, how could Finnegan not have any thoughts?
Finnegan sat up, gazing with affection at Lily. Their lips got closer and closer, Lily's breath quickened, and the roomwas filled with a flirtatious vibe.
Just as Finnegan was about to kiss Lily, she suddenlypushed him away. "I'm not feeling well. I'll go back to my room to rest."
Lily couldn't get past that barrier in her heart.
Lily's rejection almost sobered Finnegan up. He sat on the sofa, frustrated, and rubbed his forehead.
Living together for so long, he always thought Lily had remembered some things from the past and could accept him.
Lily's reaction now was just like when he went to her apartment at night back then, and she rejected him, anxious and fearful.
Finnegan felt a bit guilty, thinking he was too impatient and scared her.
After sitting on the sofa for a while, Finnegan went upstairs to Lily's room. He stood at the door for a while and apologized, "Ophelia, I'm sorry I scared you. I drank too much tonight."
Lily wasn't asleep. Hearing the voice outside, she quietly approached the door. She didn't make a sound and waited for a long time before Finnegan walked away, and she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Leaning against the door, Lily felt conflicted. She clutched her chest, feeling her heartbeat, and muttered to herself, "What should I do?"
Lily seemed to be asking herself, or maybe someone else.
That night, Lily couldn't sleep.
The next day, no one mentioned what happened last night. They met in the dining room, had breakfast together as usual, and then went to the company together.
Finnegan didn't go to the company much before, but now that Lily was working there, he went every day.
Time flew by.
Winter passed, and spring came.
Everything was full of life, the grass was green, and the willow trees were budding.
Warmie was two years old now, very mischievous, becoming the joy of the whole family.
Finnegan and Lily's relationship remained the same. They still slept in separate rooms. Outside, they acted normal, but at home, Lily always kept her distance, which puzzled Finnegan.
He had spent half a year but still couldn't make Ophelia fall in love with him again.
He tried several times to get close to Lily, but she always pushed him away.
In the Abbott's Corporation, Finnegan sat on the sofa, reminiscing about the moments since Lily came back. He couldn't understand why Lily wouldn't accept him.
Just then, Linda rushed in. "Mr. Abbott, something happened. Ophelia fainted. She suddenly collapsed in the break room. We've already called an ambulance."
Before Linda could finish, Finnegan was already rushing to the break room.
As long as there was the slightest problem with Ophelia, he would be extremely anxious because he couldn't bear to lose her again.
