Chapter 550 Refund
Ophelia and Finnegan, who were in the hospital, had no idea that an uninvited guest had come to their home and was targeting Warmie.
Ophelia was still waiting for Finnegan to undergo surgery, hoping he could see again soon.
In the evening, Lynn finished her tasks and came to visit.
Upon learning that Finnegan needed surgery and had to wait for a suitable cornea, Lynn comforted Ophelia, "Don't worry, everything will be fine."
Ophelia said, "As long as there's hope, we won't give up."
"Don't tire yourself out too much," Lynn said. "By the way, what did the police say about Niamh?"
"She's temporarily detained," Ophelia sighed. "Niamh is stubborn, and with her being pregnant, the situation is becoming tricky."
However, Ophelia was more concerned about who was behind harming Finnegan. Niamh just happened to be involved and had confined Finnegan, but the real culprit had yet to surface.
"Niamh is pregnant? By whom?" Lynn was curious.
Ophelia pondered and said, "If I'm not mistaken, it should be Jesse's. Jesse used to help Natalie manage her overseas business and later helped Niamh. But just before Niamh was caught, Jesse emptied Niamh's company."
"Emptied it?" Lynn was surprised. "So Jesse was after Niamh's money?"
"Money and probably her too," Ophelia shrugged. "Niamh isn't very smart. She knows nothing about managing a company and was easily controlled by Jesse. It's not surprising. Jesse emptied the company and is still willing to bail her out, which means he was using the company to manipulate Niamh."
With Natalie down and Deacon dead, who else could Niamh rely on?
Only Jesse.
Perhaps Jesse didn't expect Niamh to go crazy and target Finnegan.
In the hospital room, Finnegan had just woken up. He vaguely heard voices outside the door and realized Lynn had come and was talking to Ophelia.
Finnegan didn't disturb Ophelia. He just lay there quietly, listening to the sounds outside.
The wind blew in through the window. It seemed to be raining, a drizzle.
Listening further, he could hear car horns from downstairs.
Finnegan could only rely on his hearing to sense the world. Suddenly, he heard footsteps approaching. It was Ophelia coming in.
He turned his head toward the sound. "Ophelia, did Lynn leave?"
"Yes, she just left." Ophelia gently brushed his hair from his forehead and softly asked, "How long have you been awake? Why didn't you call me?"
Finnegan smiled warmly, "Just woke up."
Ophelia glanced out the window. "It's raining."
She had planned to take Finnegan out for a walk, but it seemed impossible now.
"Yes, it's raining," Finnegan said calmly. "It should rain for a while longer. Have you eaten? You've been in the hospital all day. You should go home and rest. There are caregivers here."
"I feel more at ease staying with you," Ophelia said as she sat down beside him and held his hand. Just as she was about to say something, her phone rang with an email notification.
Ophelia took out her phone and opened it. It was a reply from Moonlight Gate: ["Moonlight Gate replied. They couldn't find anyone named Nine."]
"As expected," Finnegan squeezed Ophelia's hand and reminded her again. "Don't look into it anymore."
"Okay, I'll listen to you," Ophelia agreed. "Since Moonlight Gate couldn't find the information I wanted, will they refund the deposit?"
Finnegan laughed, "Once money goes in, it rarely comes out. How much was the deposit?"
"I offered a hundred million dollars and gave a ten percent deposit," Ophelia said, feeling a bit pained. "If Moonlight Gate doesn't refund the deposit, I'll spread the word that they're incompetent, making it hard for them to operate in the underworld. I paid a million dollars just to hear they found nothing."
Finnegan chuckled, "That does seem like a loss..."
Before he could finish, Ophelia's account received a million dollars, exactly the deposit she had paid.
Ophelia excitedly said, "They refunded the money. Moonlight Gate really doesn't play by the rules. They actually refunded it."
Finnegan laughed, "Maybe they're afraid you'll ruin their reputation."
"Good for them. Since they refunded the money, I won't badmouth them."
The atmosphere lightened, and they started chatting and laughing, letting go of many worries.
Ophelia needed to go home to pack some clothes and check on Warmie. After having dinner with Finnegan at the hospital, she headed back to the old mansion.
As soon as she entered the living room, she heard Jude coaxing Warmie, "Warmie, say grandpa Ninth..."
Ophelia misheard it as Nine; her heart tightened, and she rushed in.
