Chapter 697 Reunion
Ignoring others didn't cost a thing. That was Tate's attitude towards Karen.
After tonight's meal, who knew when the whole family would sit together again?
Tate cherished these last moments, sitting quietly with the family for dinner.
Soon, Eugene and Barbara came back from the company. They had some work to handle.
When they found out Tate cooked the meal, they were thrilled. Eugene smiled and said, "This is the first time I've had a meal cooked by my daughter."
Karen blushed. She couldn't cook and had never made a meal for Eugene and Barbara all these years.
Karen stayed silent, trying to keep a low profile and avoid unnecessary attention.
Raymond said, "Let's eat."
Tate handed Eugene and Barbara their utensils and poured some juice. She raised her glass and said, "Dad, Mom, I've been really happy these past few days. I don't know how to thank you, so Raymond and I made this meal together. I'm really grateful for the home you've given me and the warmth of family."
Barbara teared up. "Tay, we're family. No need to say that."
Eugene was moved too. "Tay, your mom and I have been so happy these past few days. It's been over twenty years since we've felt this carefree. When you come home next time, we'll throw a homecoming party for you so everyone knows the eldest daughter of the Stewart family is back."
Seeing the family so warm and emotional, Karen muttered to herself, looking down on Tate for using little tricks to please their parents.
In Karen's view, Tate had a motive for making this meal.
Karen deliberately asked, "Tate, are you leaving? Where are you going?"
Raymond lied, "Tay is going out of town to study."
Barbara echoed, "Yes, she's going to study."
Karen knew it was a lie but didn't expose it. She raised her glass and said, "Then I wish you success in your studies and hope you come back soon."
"Mm." Tate responded coldly and perfunctorily.
Karen pressed on, "Tate, where are you going to study? I'll visit you when I miss you."
Tate stared coldly at Karen. "You wouldn't want to come."
No one would want to go to prison.
Karen was momentarily speechless, and Raymond interjected, "Let's eat before the food gets cold."
Meanwhile, the Abbott family home was also bustling.
Lily sat next to Finnegan, with Warmie in Finnegan's arms. The picture of the three of them together looked perfect.
Susan was all smiles, and Celia and Jude couldn't hide their joy either.
Lynn, however, seemed preoccupied. She sat next to Ophelia, very close. They used to be friends who could talk about anything, but now they felt like strangers.
Apart from that familiar face, Lynn couldn't find the feeling of their past interactions.
Everyone knew Lily couldn't remember the past, so they tactfully avoided talking about it.
Caspian raised his glass. "Finnegan, Ophelia, you've been through so much. Even God couldn't bear it. I wish your family happiness."
Such a beautiful wish deserved a drink.
Finnegan raised his glass, looked lovingly at Lily, and said, "I'm also grateful to God for bringing Ophelia back to me. I know I've worried you for the past half year. Thank you all for your concern."
With that, Finnegan drank it all in one go.
With Caspian around, the atmosphere was naturally lively.
Caspian also drank it all. "Everyone, drink up. May everything go smoothly and all your wishes come true."
Celia said with a smile, "Caspian, you're not young anymore. It's time to find a wife."
Caspian laughed, "I want to, but she doesn't like me."
Jude was curious. "Who is she?"
Finnegan teased, "Who else? You all know her, Tate."
"So it's Tate," Celia said. "I see. Isn't she in prison? Is she out?"
By this time, Celia naturally knew about Tate's situation.
Caspian's smile soured a bit. "Let's not dive into that today. It's all about Finnegan and Ophelia's big day. Let's raise a glass to wish them a lifetime of happiness."
