Chapter 579 Discovering Cooked Food
After Emerson left, Ophelia stood there, recalling Emerson's words.
'Could it really be someone playing tricks?' Ophelia thought.
That was the house where Dovie lived before she passed away. Ophelia was Dovie's only daughter. Not only did she inherit the company, but all of Dovie's assets were hers as well.
Those relatives with less intercommunication wanted a piece of the pie, but they couldn't reach it. Plus, she was the daughter of Prince Wilder of Country F, so no one dared to mess with her.
Ophelia first went to the company and dealt with some tricky projects with Linda.
After finishing, Linda asked with concern, "Ophelia, how are Mr. Abbott's eyes?"
"This time it failed. We'll have to see if the doctors can do anything else." Ophelia didn't tell the truth.
Linda encouraged, "Don't worry, Mr. Abbott will be fine."
"With modern medicine, I believe there will be a way," Ophelia said. "Linda, get ready to go with me to the Parks family."
Although Ophelia didn't believe in ghosts, having another person around gave her more courage.
An hour later, Ophelia and Linda arrived at the Parks family.
Last night's heavy rain had washed the yard clean. There were many fallen leaves.
As Ophelia opened the door, a gust of wind blew the curtains up.
Before Emerson left, she had cleaned the house thoroughly.
Ophelia glanced upstairs, thinking of Emerson's words, and went to the kitchen first.
The living room was very clean, but the kitchen was a bit dirty, with oil stains on the counter.
It was clear that someone had cooked here and hadn't cleaned up yet.
'Emerson isn't this careless. Could the house really be haunted in broad daylight?' Ophelia thought.
Ophelia looked at the fridge and found it stocked with a lot of cooked food.
'Emerson is going back to her hometown, so why would she prepare so much cooked food at home?' Ophelia thought.
The cooked food in the fridge was takeout Jesse ordered for Niamh.
Knowing Emerson had left, Jesse was afraid Niamh would go hungry, so he ordered food in his name and had it delivered.
The food was left at the door, and Niamh came down to get it after the courier left. After eating, she was resting in the living room when she heard a noise outside. Then, Niamh hurriedly hid in the basement, scared.
Nowadays, Niamh was so paranoid that she didn't dare to go out, even though she was tired of staying here.
Ophelia calmly closed the fridge and walked out. "Linda, help yourself to a drink."
Linda said, "Okay, I'll get it myself."
Niamh, on the second floor of the basement, could hear the sounds from above. She knew that Ophelia and Linda had arrived, making her even more terrified.
"I'm going to check upstairs. Make yourself comfortable." Ophelia's voice reached Niamh's ears again.
'If Ophelia goes upstairs, will she come downstairs?' Niamh pondered.
Niamh thought about finding a place to hide, but the only place to hide was the garage.
The second basement floor was connected to the garage. Opening the door of the basement led to the underground parking lot.
Going upstairs, Ophelia first checked Dovie's room and found nothing unusual, then checked each room one by one.
When she got to the attic, she found the door locked.
Ophelia didn't have the key to the attic. Given that Emerson usually managed and cleaned it, Ophelia didn't go in or think much of it.
Just as she was about to leave, she noticed wet footprints on the floor.
This scared Ophelia quite a bit. 'Is there really someone in the house?' she thought.
She checked thoroughly, but found no one, except for the cooked food in the fridge.
"Ophelia, there's a call from the company. It's from Atticus." Linda's voice interrupted Ophelia's thoughts.
Ophelia snapped back and said, "You go back to the company. I'll head straight to the hospital."
Ophelia had noticed something strange about the house, but she didn't rush to investigate. She planned to come back at night to see who was really playing tricks.
