Chapter 516 Finnegan is Missing

At the Abbott family old mansion, Ophelia made several calls, but no one answered, feeling a sense of unease. Finnegan wouldn't ignore her calls, even if he were in a meeting. Ophelia felt inexplicably uneasy as she made another call, still with no answer.

Unbeknownst to Ophelia, right after her call, Finnegan's car started leaking oil, and it was at risk of explosion.

With hidden dangers and a downhill slope, Finnegan shouted to Atticus, "Jump out!"

Finnegan quickly unbuckled his seatbelt, controlling the car while preparing to jump out.

Startled, Atticus instinctively opened the back door upon hearing Finnegan's voice, and moments before the explosion, they both leaped from the car.

However, the explosion still caught them, debris flying, flames soaring, a loud blast echoing through the valley.

Even Tate, nearly two miles away, heard the explosion.

Tate, sensing trouble, rushed to the explosion site to find the burning car hanging off the cliff and Atticus lying on the ground, injured and unconscious, with no one else around.

'Where is Finnegan?' she thought.

Rushing to the cliff's edge, the burning car gave way and fell off the cliff. Tate couldn't be sure if Finnegan were in the car.

'Who is behind this?' she thought.

The explosion was heard by villagers at the foot of the mountain, prompting Tate to leave before the police arrived. After checking that Atticus was still alive, she left the scene.

Shortly after Tate went, the police and ambulances headed toward the scene.

Mario, closest to the location, arrived swiftly upon receiving the report.

Meanwhile, Ophelia stood in the mansion's yard, staring at the door, feeling uneasy as her calls went unanswered.

She tried calling Atticus, too, but there was no response.

Seeing Jude return from the backyard, she knew he was checking if Oscar had returned.

"Dad," Ophelia called out.

Jude, looking troubled, replied, "Ophelia, have you called Finnegan? When is he coming back? Go eat first if you're hungry."

"No one's answering the phone," Ophelia said. "Dad, did you find Oscar?"

Jude sighed. "Oscar grew up under my care. When he was young, he got along well with Finnegan. I don't know what happened, but as they grew up, it seemed like they had a grudge. I've lost most of my brothers, and Mason was sent to prison by Finnegan. Finnegan has sent many Abbott family members to jail over the years. Finnegan is tough; he adheres strictly to principles over familial ties, regardless of who it is."

Finnegan's reputation from a few years ago was indeed bad, which also frightened Ophelia.

Jude worried that if Oscar provoked Finnegan again, the Abbott family might be wiped out.

Ophelia, not well-versed in Abbott family matters, refrained from commenting and reassuring her father about Finnegan's treatment of Oscar. "Finnegan has known Oscar was pretending long before but he didn’t expose him. As long as Oscar behaves himself, Finnegan won’t make things difficult for him. Don’t worry."

"How can I not worry? I'm afraid Oscar is stubborn and holds a grudge against Finnegan because of his father's issues and will cause trouble again," Jude said. "Oscar's temperament is just like Lloyd Abbott's back in the day."

"Lloyd Abbott?" Ophelia was puzzled. 'Didn't Susan only have eight children? When did this Lloyd Abbott appear?' she thought.

Jude explained, "Susan's biological children were only three, me, my third brother, and a sister who died young. The rest were adopted by Susan. In those days, it wasn't easy to survive. Lloyd was a friend's son entrusted to Susan, but it was kept secret. After argument with Susan, Lloyd left home and disappeared for thirty years."

This was news to Ophelia, who had always thought Susan was formidable, given her many children.

In those days, most families had seven or eight children, with no concept of contraception since more people meant more strength.
