Chapter 271 The Ship Has Sailed
Finnegan retorted, "Who did I sleep with? Don't talk nonsense. If Ophe finds out, she’ll put her foot down."
The last sentence was purely Finnegan's teasing.
Little did he know, Celia's reaction was even more extreme.
Celia sharply asked, "What? Ophe dares to do that? That's outrageous! It's unreasonable. How can a woman beat a man?"
Celia completely forgot that she had treated Jude the same way when she was young. Like father, like son.
Finnegan rubbed his forehead and said, "Celia, I was just using a metaphor. Don't generalize. Ophe and I are fine. Stop scheming behind my back. Ophe is pregnant and can't handle the stress. Don't force me to turn against you."
Finnegan hung up the phone after saying these harsh words.
Celia didn't back down. She was not satisfied with Ophe.
She went to the pharmacy, bought a bottle of contraceptives, and replaced them with vitamins in a bottle to make Lynn take them. She also bought many other nutritional supplements.
Then, Celia went to the "Rose Garden."
Lynn had just finished stewing the chicken soup, but before Finnegan could come back to eat, Ophe couldn't resist and started eating.
Lynn said on the side, "I drugged it. If you're not afraid of death, go ahead and eat. If it upsets your stomach, it's not my responsibility."
Celia overheard this and immediately put down her things. She rushed forward and snatched the soup from Ophe. "Don't eat it. She drugged it. What will happen to my grandson?"
Celia's sudden appearance left Ophe and Lynn stunned.
Celia had been too quick just now and took a big step forward.
She poured the soup into the trash can and confronted Lynn, "How could you do this? You've put my grandson in danger. It is Little Finnegan's child. If you dare to harm the child in Ophe's womb, I won't spare you."
Ophe was stunned. She thought Celia was unbelievable. Celia was actually defending her.
Of course, Celia had misunderstood.
Ophe explained, "There are no drugs in this soup. We were joking."
Celia interrupted sternly, "You're just too naive and believed everything. What if there really were drugs? If something happens to you, it's fine, but my grandson can't be in danger. I don't know why my son loves someone who doesn’t have even a single bit of caution, someone who’s as foolish as can be."
Celia's actions made Lynn realize that the Abbott family approved of the child in Ophe's womb. Ophe was not important; the child was. She was just a tool, a tool that Celia used to drive Ophe away.
Celia turned to Lynn and said, "Come with me. I have something to tell you."
Lynn stood still, but Celia directly dragged her outside the courtyard.
Ophe watched through the glass and saw the two of them arguing. She didn't intervene but instead leisurely asked Lina to serve another bowl of chicken soup.
Lina was a bit worried and said, "Madam, should I go and try to mediate? They seem to be arguing a lot."
"No need to bother," Ophe said, looking at the two arguing outside the window. "Lynn needs to have this argument to let out all her grievances. Lina, please prepare some dipping sauce for me, with more vinegar. Thank you."
Lina asked softly, "Is it true that there are no drugs in the chicken soup?"
Ophe smiled and replied, "Lina, you can rest assured and serve the soup. Also, bring a bowl to Magnus."
Lina served a bowl of chicken soup and prepared the dipping sauce. Ophe enjoyed her meal while the argument escalated outside.
When Finnegan came back, he also saw the two of them arguing in the courtyard but pretended not to notice. He walked straight to the restaurant and asked, "Ophe, what smells so good?"
Ophe replied, "Lynn stewed chicken soup personally. It's delicious. Would you like to try some?"
Finnegan glanced at the two people arguing outside in the courtyard and then at Ophe, who was eating without a care in the world. He smiled and asked, "Why are Celia and Lynn arguing?"
Ophe replied, "Probably because the ship has sailed."
Celia and Lynn were like people on the same boat, but now that they had fallen out, it was as if the ship had sailed away without them.
