Chapter 567 Discovering Clues
Niamh didn't know what was happening outside, so she didn't dare to expose herself, let alone go looking for Jesse.
After eating her fill, Niamh stayed in the attic. She didn't dare to turn on the lights and even locked the door. Only this way did she feel safe.
Jesse, who was outside, knew that Niamh was at the Parks family but didn't go looking for her immediately. He had just come out of the police station and was a suspect, so the police would definitely be watching him.
Jesse went straight home and continued with his usual routine.
Jesse believed that Niamh wasn't foolish enough to come out while being wanted by the police.
Hiding at the Parks family was the safest option.
The police set up a massive dragnet throughout City N to capture Niamh, making it impossible for her to leave the city.
Niamh's escape from prison made Ophelia very worried. Niamh was too dangerous and crazy, like a ticking time bomb if left outside.
Ophelia first took Warmie to the hospital. Finnegan didn't say anything about Niamh's escape. The police would handle it, and he didn't need to worry.
In the following days, Ophelia spent most of her time at the hospital with Finnegan. Warmie stayed in the hospital, so the family of three just changed their place of residence.
The hospital had everything they needed.
During the time the police were hunting for Niamh, she stayed hidden at the Parks family.
At first, Emerson didn't notice anything unusual, but as Niamh's appetite grew, there was less and less leftover food.
One time, Emerson cooked some steaks and remembered there were three left. But when she went to get them in the evening, they were gone.
Emerson was puzzled. "Did I remember it wrong?"
At night, the dog would occasionally bark, waking Emerson up. She scolded, "What are you barking at in the middle of the night? Go to sleep."
The dog looked upstairs. With its keen ears, it could hear any movement from above.
Niamh, hungry, got up in the middle of the night to find food and accidentally disturbed the dog.
As her belly grew, Niamh's appetite increased, and she ate more.
After being scolded, the dog was locked in a cage.
Niamh upstairs didn't dare to make any noise. She hated the dog, thinking it was a nuisance. If only the dog were dead.
The next day.
Emerson went grocery shopping. As soon as she left, Niamh came downstairs, her eyes fixed on the caged poodle.
"Stupid dog, how dare you bark at me." Niamh walked over viciously, and the poodle barked frantically.
Niamh opened the cage. As the dog came out, she swung a hammer down.
The agile dog dodged, and the hammer hit its belly, narrowly missing it.
The poodle yelped in terror, and Niamh, filled with hatred, swung the hammer again.
Lori passed by the house and heard the dog's pitiful cries, wondering what was happening.
She approached the house and called out, "Emerson."
There was no response, and even the dog's barking stopped.
Lori didn't think much of it and hurried back next door to cook for her employer.
Emerson returned with groceries two hours later. When she got back, she couldn't find the dog anywhere.
Emerson searched the yard but couldn't find it.
The dog had just disappeared.
Emerson found it very strange. 'I've locked the dog up, and all the doors and windows are closed. How could it be gone?' she thought.
Thinking about the dog's nightly barking and the missing food from the fridge, Emerson felt a chill down her spine. 'Could the house be haunted?' she thought.
Emerson was scared. Even in broad daylight, she felt a cold shiver.
At that moment, Emerson's phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, Emerson answered, "Mrs. Abbott..."
The call was from Ophelia.
Unbeknownst to Emerson, Niamh was watching her behind a pillar on the upstairs balcony.
