Chapter 399 Heart Softened Beyond Measure
Ophelia was completely stunned as if she had misheard. "Finnegan, what did you say? Dovie is my mother? How is that possible? Why would you say that?"
She felt that there was no way she and Dovie could be mother and daughter.
"Ophelia, do you remember when I told you that Dovie didn't seem very surprised when she found out Niamh wasn't her biological daughter?"
Ophelia was even more puzzled. "I remember, but what does that have to do with Dovie and me being mother and daughter? That doesn't prove anything."
"Think about it. Why did Natalie say you were her daughter but didn't want you?" Finnegan said in a deep voice, "We all know Natalie couldn't be your biological mother, so why did she say that? The reason is simple. She knew you were Dovie's daughter, and she had to prevent you two from recognizing each other."
"Why?" Ophelia felt her mind couldn't keep up.
"Because Niamh is Natalie's real daughter." Finnegan analyzed, "If I'm not mistaken, Natalie had her daughter pretend to be Dovie's daughter. Because the Parks Family has a rule that only the eldest daughter can inherit the family business, Niamh could only inherit if she was Dovie's daughter. That's also why Dovie didn't expose Niamh's identity."
"Because Niamh does have the last name Parks, so Dovie went to Old Abbott to plead for her. She wasn't pleading for her daughter but for the Parks Family's bloodline."
Ophelia suddenly thought of something. "Previously, Natalie subtly hinted that she didn't want me to find my biological parents. Later, when she found out I was looking for them, she came to tell me she was my mother. All of this was because she was afraid I would recognize Dovie?"
"That should be correct." Finnegan said, "Whether it's true or not, a paternity test will tell. Ophelia, I don't want you to have any regrets."
"But." Ophelia couldn't let go of Finnegan either. She knew what Finnegan wanted to do, but she didn't want to let him take the risk.
"I'm out now. They can't do anything to me. Now, with the public opinion on our side, don't worry, I won't do anything rash." Finnegan reassured her with a smile. "Do you really think your husband is omnipotent? I'm not as capable as my wife. I'm staying to handle the scandal and the contracts we haven't signed yet. These need to be dealt with."
Finnegan said these things to make Ophelia not worry. Now that he was out on bail, he was like a wolf.
When a wolf looks back, it's either to repay a favor or to seek revenge.
Ophelia knew there were still many things to handle here, and she needed to go back to the mainland. She was also worried about Dovie's condition.
"Alright, I'll go back and check on things first." Ophelia said, "If you haven't returned by then, I'll come back here."
"Okay, I promise you, I'll be back soon." Finnegan said with a smile. "You should go back tomorrow morning."
As she was in France, it was already late, and she could only fly back the next morning.
Ophelia agreed, feeling uneasy about her uncertain relationship with Dovie.
Atticus had the hotel prepare some food, and the two sat down to eat together, enjoying this moment of warmth.
While eating, Ophelia suddenly felt the baby kick in her belly. She exclaimed with joy, "Finnegan, the baby kicked me."
"Really? Let me feel." Finnegan was also overjoyed, placing his hand on her belly.
The little one cooperated and kicked again.
That kick landed right in Finnegan's palm. He could feel the baby's tiny foot, small yet full of strength.
At that moment, Finnegan felt very warm. This was the power of new life.
His eyes moistened.
He pressed his face against Ophelia's belly, squatting beside her, holding her, feeling the baby move inside her. The three of them were very warm and cozy.
Ophelia was also moved. She gently stroked his back and said, "The baby is happy. She knows Daddy is back. This little one is really a lucky star. I lost eight times in a row at the underground casino but won the two most crucial times. I feel like it's all thanks to our little lucky star."
Finnegan kissed Ophelia's belly and said, "With our genes, there's no way we could go wrong."
