Chapter 74 An Awkward Encounter

Atticus, who had stood by Finnegan's side for years, could sense that Finnegan felt differently about Ophelia, especially after she resigned. Learning that Finnegan had sent Seraphina packing from Orchid Garden only confirmed Atticus's suspicions. Mr. Abbott had a soft spot for Ophelia.

As a subordinate, Atticus could only speculate and dared not inquire.

Looking at the remaining resumes in Ophelia's hand, Atticus asked, "How did the interview go?"

"I probably didn't get the job," Ophelia shrugged, not ready to give up. "I'll keep looking. Mr. Montgomery, I need to get going."

"Sure." Atticus didn't try to keep Ophelia there. Mr. Abbott had instructed him to watch over the situation but hadn't asked him to make her stay.

Ophelia gave a nod and turned to leave.

As she chatted with Atticus, the head of Human Resources, Graham Pedro, happened to catch the scene.

Graham knew who Atticus was – the man was hot property, a favorite of none other than Finnegan himself. In their circles, who wouldn't recognize him?

Graham turned the situation over in his head, pondering the identity of the woman who seemed quite familiar with Finnegan's special assistant. As Atticus headed towards the elevator, Graham stepped into the interview room and asked the interviewer, "Can you show me the resume of the woman who just left? She had long hair, very pretty. What was her name?"

Of all the candidates who had come in, except for Ophelia, they were all men.

The interviewer pulled out Ophelia's resume from the pile of discarded ones. "Mr. Graham, are you referring to this Ophelia?"

Recognizing her from the photo on top of the resume, Graham confirmed, "Yes, that's her. Keep her on the list."

The interviewer looked surprised. "Mr. Graham, does she have some significant background?"

Graham explained, "I saw her talking to Mr. Montgomery just now. They seemed quite close. I even overheard some mention of Mr. Abbott. It can't be bad to keep someone around with connections like Miss Sinclair has."

"Got it, Mr. Graham," the interviewer understood. "I'll give Ophelia a call right away and ask her to come in for onboarding next Monday."

The job posting was mostly predetermined with really just one spot truly available. The odds of Ophelia getting the job were slim.

Finnegan had sent Atticus to keep an eye on Ophelia, afraid that she might actually land the job. Little did he know that his very action resulted in Ophelia’s unwitting success in the interview – something that could potentially cost Montgomery his year-end bonus.

...

Just as Ophelia stepped out the door of Parks Corporation, her phone rang with news that she had passed the interview.

"Ms. Sinclair, will it be convenient for you to come in on Monday to complete the onboarding process?"

Ophelia could hardly believe it. She thought she wouldn't get the job.

"That would be no problem at all,, thanks." She couldn't contain her excitement.

After hanging up the call, Ophelia couldn't wait to text Magnus to share her joy. She had just crafted the perfect message and hit send when a woman came barreling from the side, bumping into her so hard her phone clattered to the ground.

Before Ophelia could even bend to pick up her shattered phone, she was met with a screeching accusation.

"Watch where you're going!" The woman, exuding arrogance, snapped back as if she were the victim. "You've hurt me terribly."

Ophelia was speechless. She had been standing still. How could she possibly be at fault here?

She picked up her phone, now with a cracked screen, and looked at the woman. "Miss, it was clearly you who ran into me, and my phone..."

The woman in front of her was decked out in designer clothes from head to toe. She was tall and very beautiful, seemingly around the same age as Ophelia herself.

Before Ophelia could finish her grievance, the woman answered a call. "I'm downstairs now. Keep an eye out, don't let him leave," she said before rushing inside, apparently in a hurry.

"Hey, you owe me a phone..." Ophelia tried to reason with the woman.

However, the fresh graduate who had chatted her up earlier, Sybil Fletcher, held her back. "Ophelia, that's Niamh Parks, the heiress of the Parks Corporation. It's better to leave it alone."

'She's the heiress of the Parks Corporation?' Ophelia was surprised. 'How can Ms. Parks, have such an unreasonable daughter?'

Of course, she felt relieved that Niamh was in a rush and had left. Otherwise, she would have been the one at a disadvantage.

She was just an ordinary person, and against a wealthy heiress like Niamh, she would surely be the one to lose out.
After boss's baby, she Escape
