Chapter 141 Finnegan's Anxiety
Hearing this, Finnegan's face turned pale, and his gaze sharpened like a cold blade as he looked at Caspian.
"Finnegan," Finnegan’s voice was icy, "do you have any regard for the consequences of your actions?"
One of the reasons that Finnegan had promised Ophelia that he wouldn't go public with their relation was his worries about his mother intervening.
He knew his mother all too well and precisely what she would do.
Caspian shivered with fear, "Finnegan, it's all my fault, I just slipped up in the moment and fell for your mom's tricks. Here I am, ready to apologize."
Finnegan emanated a frosty aura, "How many hours has it been since my mom spoke to you?"
Caspian dared not meet Finnegan’s gaze, "About three, three or four hours."
Finnegan wished he could bore holes into Caspian with his eyes as a lesson.
With his mother's temperament, she wouldn’t waste a minute and would head straight to Ophelia.
Finnegan immediately took out his cell phone and called Ophelia, but it went straight to voicemail.
Ophelia had been taken into custody and had her phone temporarily confiscated, which explained why she couldn't be reached.
Finnegan then dialed Celia.
At the Abbott family estate,
Seeing the call from her son, Celia was a mix of happy, surprised, and scared, and she didn’t dare to answer.
Ordinarily, mother and son would never call each other; accurately speaking, Finnegan would never initiate a call to her.
Celia had just met with Ophelia when Finnegan's call came through. He must have known she was looking for Ophelia.
Celia chose not to answer the call, but Finnegan didn't give up and called again.
The second time the phone rang, Celia was still hesitating. old lady Abbott heard the ringing and asked, "Celia, why aren't you picking up the phone? Who is it, Finnegan?"
"Mom, I... I'll get it," Celia answered the phone with trepidation in her heart. "Hello, Finnegan…"
She adjusted her tone, putting on a smile, trying to keep her voice steady.
Despite being afraid of her son, she knew she had to assert herself.
Finnegan was direct. "You've seen Ophelia? What did you say to her? How much money did you take this time?"
His tone was ice-cold, with each sentence sounding more like an accusation.
Each question showed he had a clear idea of what Celia had done.
Celia's response was evasive, "I... I saw her. We just chatted. I didn't take any money. I just heard you had a girlfriend and was curious to see her, to check on her for you. Let me tell you, this Ophelia isn't right for you, she's just playing with you. She told me herself."
"Mom, I've warned you not to interfere in my affairs," Finnegan said sharply. "I can guess what you've said to Ophelia, and I'm asking you, please stop meddling. Otherwise, don't be surprised if I stop acknowledging you as my mother."
Hearing this, Celia panicked, "Finnegan, do you realize what you're saying? Over a girl, you would disown your own mother?"
Beside Finnegan, Caspian, listening to the conversation, was also stunned.
Was the situation really that serious?
On Celia's end, old lady Abbott too had her own point of interest. The elderly woman was concerned that her grandson was dating and that Celia had gone to see the boy's girlfriend without her.
Old lady Abbott tugged at Celia's hand, "Celia, how could you go see the girl without me? Is my grandson's girlfriend pretty? I knew it, Niamh is beautiful, takes after her grandfather."
Celia didn't have the time or the patience to deal with old lady Abbott’s confusion. When she heard her son disowning her, she became emotionally charged. "Finnegan, have you really gotten too big for your britches? Because of a Grace Parker, you've been holding a grudge against me for years. You don't come home, you don't talk to me, you don't even call, you're breaking your mother's heart. And now, because of an Ophelia, you don't even acknowledge your own mom."
Finnegan didn't want to argue with his mother. He dropped a bombshell, "Don't you dare touch Ophelia, or we are no longer mother and son," and then he hung up the phone.
Caspian was terrified by the severity of the situation; he hadn't expected things to escalate so much. He mustered all his courage and tried to appease Finnegan. "Actually, it's not that serious. Your mom can't do that much to Miss Sinclair, don't let this affect the bond between you and your mother."
Finnegan gave Caspian a cold look and exploded with an expletive, showing no restraint, "You don't know anything."
Caspian was speechless.
Shocked, Caspian realized this was the first time he had seen Finnegan lose his composure. No matter how serious the situation, Finnegan was the kind who could stand steadfast as if nothing could shake him.
However, this time, Finnegan was visibly rattled.
This made Caspian curious about the real reason Grace Parker had left A City years ago.
