Chapter 319 Trouble
"I didn't come to see you." Celia's face was cold, but her tone softened a lot. "This is the powdered milk, especially for pregnant women. I had someone bring it back from overseas so you could drink it on time every day. It's beneficial. When the time comes, the granddaughter born will be beautiful."
The pregnant milk bought by Celia is not the same brand as the one purchased by Magnus.
Seeing it was pregnant milk again, Ophelia said, "Okay, I'll put it away first."
"Why put it away? Mix it with warm water and taste it first," Celia said, then turned to the maid next to her, "Go get some warm water; mix three spoons of this powdered milk. Remember to give it to the young lady twice a days."
Celia referred to Ophelia as the "young lady," acknowledging Ophelia's status and recognizing her as the mistress here.
Old Abbott winked at Ophelia, who understood and smiled.
It was only because she was pregnant that Celia acknowledged her.
If she couldn't give birth to a daughter, Celia's attitude would probably change.
Seeing the maid really going to mix the milk, Ophelia was about to speak up, but Lina came over with the mixed milk. "Your milk is ready; try the temperature."
Seeing the milk, Celia asked, "What brand of milk is this? Ophelia, I heard from Finnegan that you didn't drink milk. Why now? I especially had someone buy it for you from overseas."
Ophelia told the truth, explaining, "This was bought by my friend just now. I had Lina mix a bowl for a taste."
Celia was not happy at that moment as she glanced at Magnus beside her.
As a mother-in-law, she sent milk powder to her daughter-in-law, who didn't drink it and instead drank what her friend sent. She thought Ophelia didn't respect her.
Celia said unhappily, "What do you mean? Can't you drink the milk I bought? This is over 300 dollars per can and is very nutritious. If you don't want to drink it, I'll take it back."
Ophelia was speechless.
Lina was in a dilemma, holding the milk, unsure whether to hand it to Ophelia or not.
Magnus also didn't want Ophelia to quarrel with Celia, so he quickly said, "Ophelia, taste the milk your mother-in-law bought. She prepared it so carefully. As a younger generation, you can't let her down."
Old Abbott smiled and said, "I happen to be thirsty. I'll drink this milk. Lina, go mix a bowl for Ophelia; take this one."
Old Abbott took the milk from Lina's hand, gesturing for Lina to go and brew a bowl with the milk Celia bought.
Old Abbott also wanted to ease Ophelia and Celia's relationship. As Celia personally sent supplements over and if Ophelia didn't accept them, that would be disrespectful to Celia.
As Celia's mother-in-law, she understood that Celia valued her dignity the most.
Before Ophelia could say anything, Old Abbott directly drank a bowl of milk. "Sweet, quite tasty. I'm old, so I'll have some milk powder as a supplement. Magnus, do you mind showing some filial piety to me?"
Magnus understood Old Abbott's meaning and replied with a smile. "Of course not."
Only then did Lina go to brew a portion with the milk Celia bought, and Ophelia naturally didn't say anything, drinking it in front of Celia.
Celia's expression immediately improved. "Remember, twice a day, morning and evening. After you finish, I'll buy more for you. My granddaughter is in your belly and you can't mistreat her. What did the doctor say at the last check-up? When is the next check-up? Did the doctor say if it's a boy or a girl?"
Before Ophelia could speak, Old Abbott said, "What's the matter? It's Ophelia and Finnegan's child. Why do they need your consent for what they give birth to? Whether it's a boy or a girl, they are all Abbott's Family's child. You didn't have the ability back then to give me a granddaughter; and now you're still asking Ophelia. I'm old, but I'm not dead yet."
Celia was left speechless by the retort.
With Old Abbott backing Ophelia, Celia couldn't get a good outcome.
Celia said, "Mom, I'm your daughter-in-law. Can't you speak to me more gently? Why do you always argue with me?"
"You haven't been gentle with Ophelia either," Old Abbott said firmly. "Until now, you haven't paid the fee for Ophelia to call you mother."
Celia was once again left speechless.
As Magnus had to go to the office, he stayed briefly before leaving.
Old Abbott and Celia stayed for lunch.
But during lunch, Old Abbott suddenly felt unwell, clutching her stomach in pain and looking very uncomfortable.
Ophelia and Celia were both frightened.
"Grandma Abbott, what's wrong?" Ophelia asked.
"Mom, don't scare me." Calia was in a panic.
Old Abbott held her stomach and said, "Help me to the restroom; it seems like my pants are wet."
Celia looked under Old Abbott's pants and was shocked. "Mom, there's blood. You've gone through menopause; why are you still menstruating?"
