Chapter 519 No News is Good News
Implicitly, Finnegan was missing. No one knew if he was dead or still alive. Atticus did not wake up, and the situation at that time was unknown. Also, due to the explosion of the car, many clues were burned, and the police did not know the cause of the blast.
On the way here, Ophelia had already thought of many possibilities. When she heard that Finnegan's life and death were uncertain, she seemed to have lost her soul. She had seen Finnegan at the company during the day. Now, she regreted not waiting for him to go home together. At that time in the company, there was a sudden reluctance in her heart, which turned out to be a premonition.
Landon had just understood what had happened.
Ophelia tightly grasped her hand, her nails embedded in her flesh, scratching out bloodstains, seemingly unaware of the pain.
"Mrs. Abbott," Landon called out to her. "Don't worry, for now, we’re still searching."
Ophelia came to her senses, looked at Landon and Mario, nodded stiffly, and asked, "Why did Finnegan appear in that place?"
Ophelia was unsure where Finnegan had gone tonight or what he had done. She only knew that he had promised to come home for dinner at 7:30 p.m. The whole family was waiting. Why did Finnegan break his promise?
The police were all puzzled. They didn't know why Finnegan appeared there, and Ophelia, as his wife, didn't know either. They would know even less.
Mario remembered seeing Finnegan before. Finnegan said he was discussing something at the dock.
Mario said, "I saw Mr. Abbott before. He said he was discussing something at the dock. Mrs. Abbott, don't worry. If we have information here, we will inform you as soon as possible."
Ophelia's mind was blank. The police had no information. After understanding the situation, Ophelia went to the hospital. Atticus was still in the operating room and couldn't provide any information.
Ophelia was anxious. She drove to the place where Finnegan had the accident.
Wilder had already informed the local police of Finnegan's accident. Various types of police were mobilized locally to search for Finnegan in the mountains.
The whole mountain, at a glance, was bright, full of people and lights. The road was sealed off, and no vehicles could pass. After identifying herself, Ophelia was led by the police to the place where Finnegan's car exploded.
The ground was littered with car fragments and bloodstains. Looking at everything on the ground, Ophelia was filled with despair. From such a high cliff, could anyone survive a fall?
It's not easy for the people inside the car to survive the explosion, let alone the car plunging off the cliff after losing control.
The accompanying police said, "It should be that before the explosion, Atticus jumped out of the car. Atticus should have been sitting in the back seat at the time, and Mr. Abbott should have been driving." This was the police's inference based on the wreckage of the car and finding Atticus at the scene.
Tears welled up in Ophelia's eyes as she looked at the police. "Can he survive? Will he be okay?"
The police hesitated a bit in their response. Surviving in such a situation would be a miracle. The police tactfully said, "If Mr. Abbott jumped out before the explosion, there should be a chance of survival."
'But if he did jump out, where is he now?' she thought.
Only Atticus was at the scene, so now the police believe that Finnegan did not jump out and went over the cliff with the car. He might have fallen somewhere at the foot of the mountain or halfway up. In fact, everyone knew in their hearts that they were not looking for a living person but a body.
Ophelia looked down the cliff and murmured to herself, "He will be fine. We are going to have a wedding next year. He said he would give me a memorable grand wedding. He said a woman only wears a wedding dress once in her life. His woman cannot be without it."
Everyone knew that Finnegan and Ophelia had a good relationship. The police didn't know how to comfort her.
From dusk till dawn, Ophelia didn't find Finnegan.
Ophelia felt there was still a hint of hope. As they hadn't found the body, it meant Finnegan may still be alive.
Ophelia received many calls from Susan, Celia, Jude, and Wilder. Everyone was concerned. Ophelia didn't know how to face her family or how to comfort them. She could only say the police were still searching.
When she heard the news that Atticus had woken up in the hospital, Ophelia immediately went back to the hospital.
