Chapter 723 Conclusive Evidence
Lily's words hit Tate like a ton of bricks.
It was clear they weren't the loving couple she remembered.
Tate said, "Back when Finnegan was framed, caught in a scandal, and almost couldn't come back, you were pregnant. We brought him back. Later, Finnegan was attacked by Moonlight Gate, lost his sight, and was taken away by Niamh. Everyone said Finnegan wouldn't return, but you didn't believe it..."
"Tate, I've heard this a million times," Lily gently cut him off. "You're not the first to tell me these stories. Everyone tries to remind me of how Finnegan and I used to be. But to me, these are just other people's stories. I can't remember. It only makes me feel like a puppet. What you all want is the old Ophelia."
Tate was speechless, and Finnegan, listening from the staircase, felt a pang in his heart.
He had given Lily freedom, but that didn't mean he didn't care. Finnegan knew exactly who Lily went to the hotel with. That guy was Wayne Perez, whose family ran a food factory. He wasn't super rich, just a millionaire. Handsome, but compared to Finnegan, Wayne was no match.
Yet Lily chose to be with him instead.
Finnegan didn't even want to go home anymore. He didn't want to see Lily, but he couldn't stop missing her. He didn't dare question her and even pretended nothing had happened.
In their relationship, Finnegan felt particularly humble. He had no way to deal with Lily, like holding a handful of snow—if he held it tight, it would melt; if he loosened it, it would scatter.
Finnegan had thought countless times about confronting Lily, but whenever he saw her face and recalled the past, his anger would just melt away
What could he use to question her? The past memories were something he was stuck in alone. The current Ophelia didn't remember, so how could he bear to blame her?
Tate stared at Lily for a while, realizing it was pointless to continue, then stood up and said, "I have something to do, so I'll leave now. The Stewart family will host a return banquet for me. You're welcome to come if you want."
Lily responded, "Okay."
After Tate left, Lily sat on the sofa for a while, thinking about how to get Finnegan to divorce her.
Only by divorcing could they emotionally cut ties, and Finnegan wouldn't suffer anymore.
Lily glanced at her phone; there was a message from Wayne.
Lily got up and went out, telling the servant, "I won't be back for dinner tonight. Let Finnegan know."
Now the servant had become their messenger.
The servant replied, "Okay, Mrs. Abbott. When will you be back?"
"I don't know, maybe later," Lily answered vaguely.
Lily left, and the servant went upstairs to inform Finnegan. Finnegan came out and said, "I already know. You can go back to your work."
"Yes, sir." The servant went to the kitchen.
Finnegan looked the yard, knowing clearly that Lily had gone to see Wayne again. Without memories of the past, without moral constraints and psychological burdens, Lily didn't deliberately hide her actions from him.
From her perspective, she might prefer to be Lily rather than Ophelia.
Meanwhile, Carl had found out the man who was meeting Lily at the hotel through the license plate number.
Carl couldn't believe that Lily had found a man who was inferior to Finnegan in every way.
He called Lynn with the information he had found. "I've got the details on that man. I really don't understand what Ophelia is thinking, falling for a guy like this."
Lynn frowned. "Are you sure? What's his background?"
"His name is Wayne Perez, just a small-time food factory owner," Carl said. "I guess Wayne is just good with words and managed to fool Ophelia. After all, Ophelia doesn't remember Finnegan, and Finnegan's strictness might have caused a psychological rebellion."
"Ophelia is cheating on Finnegan?" Lynn found it hard to digest this information. "How can Finnegan accept this? We shouldn't say anything for now. Just stop the investigation here. We'll talk when I get back."
