Chapter 754 The Truth Is Like This

Tate showed up where Dylan worked. Dylan hadn't gone out to sea yet; he was fixing the boat while his buddy mended the nets.

Tate and Caspian boarded the boat. Dylan, seeing strangers, put down his tools and asked, "Who're you two? What you want?"

"You Dylan?" Tate asked. "We're friends with Lily. Haven't heard from her in a bit, figured we'd come check in. You're her dad, yeah? Where is she?"

Caspian admired Tate's boldness; she could pretend to be anyone.

This time, she was pretending to be Lily's friend.

Dylan got cautious. He knew Lily's friends well.

"You've got the wrong person," Dylan said, not admitting anything.

Tate was testing him, and his response gave him away.

If Dylan wouldn't admit it, something was up.

Caspian said, "We really are Lily's friends. She told us her dad's name is Dylan and that he fishes here. We're worried about her. We haven't seen her in over a year. Lily has a heart condition. We want to know if her surgery went well and if she's okay."

Dylan's face changed. Worried about being overheard, he said, "Let's talk somewhere else."

Dylan got off the boat, and Tate and Caspian followed. They went to a secluded spot.

Dylan asked, "Who are you really? Lily never mentioned any friends."

Caspian said, "I'm Caspian, and this is my girlfriend Tate. We've known Lily for a long time. We went out of town for work and just got back, so we wanted to see her. But we couldn't reach her, so we came here."

The lie didn't need to be perfect, just enough to make Dylan panic and reveal something.

Dylan didn't believe them. "Lily went out of town to work. She's not home."

"Is she really not home, or are you hiding her?" Tate's eyes were sharp. "Lily's health isn't good. How could you let her go out to work? She just had heart surgery last year and is still recovering. Did her surgery fail? Did something happen to her?"

Tate's last question was deliberate.

"Surgery didn't fail," Dylan said impatiently. "Lily's fine. But she ain't here. If you're lookin' for her, try somewhere else."

"You're hiding her because this Lily ain't the same one you knew before, are you?" Tate was losing patience. If it were up to her, she'd use force to get the truth.

Dylan, feeling guilty, said, "Don't know what you're talkin' about. What do you mean Lily ain't Lily? That's crazy talk."

"Then why's she pretending to be someone else?" Tate's stare was unwavering. "Dylan, we're here for the truth. You gonna tell us what's going on, or should I get the Abbotts involved? A little DNA test will prove if this Lily is really Ophelia."

Tate had planned to investigate quietly, but Dylan's evasion made her anxious about Ophelia's whereabouts, so she decided to be direct.

Dylan's face changed. Under Tate's intense presence, he couldn't meet her eyes.

Caspian said, "My girlfriend is impatient. Please don't mind. We just want to know where Ophelia is, if she's alive, and why Lily became Ophelia. We won't tell the Abbott family. We're friends of Finnegan. Lily should have told you about the Abbott family's situation."

Originally uncertain, Caspian realized something was off from Dylan's reaction.

The current Ophelia was probably Lily.

Dylan was silent, looking troubled.

Tate said sternly, "What you're doing is fraud. If you don't tell the truth, we'll involve the police."

Dylan panicked and blurted out, "Lily isn't a fraud. Ophelia asked Lily to do this."

After boss's baby, she Escape
