Chapter 22 Ophelia's Morning Sickness
Seraphina's words caused Finnegan's face to darken instantly, his eyes turning cold. "Seraphina, you are overstepping the boundaries. I can let you stay in Orchid Garden, and I can also kick you out."
Seraphina's attempt to meddle in Finnegan's private life had crossed the line.
Scared pale, Seraphina stammered, "Mr. Abbott, I...I'm just asking."
"There are things you shouldn't ask about," Finnegan said coldly, giving Seraphina a chilling look. "Mind your own business."
After that, Finnegan left straight away.
Seraphina felt like she had narrowly escaped a disaster. Finnegan's expression was so scary.
She couldn't bear to lose the luxury she had, like the mansion, branded bags, and luxury cars. She thought, 'Even if I can't become Mrs. Abbott, it doesn't matter.'
'As long as he gives me money, that's enough.'
'Now, I'm the only woman living in Orchid Garden. I can always find a chance to have Finnegan's baby. At that time, he'll have no choice but to accept me.'
Seraphina was well aware that everything she had was stolen from Ophelia.
She currently was just a nobody. But just now, she got too hasty and angered Finnegan.
From this incident, Seraphina learned to be more sensible. Before having Finnegan's heart, she had to get enough money from him. She refused to go back to her poor days.
In that case, even if one day Finnegan kicked her out, she would still have enough money to last a lifetime, and that would be worth it.

After leaving the hospital, Finnegan sat in his car for a while, Seraphina's question echoing in his ears.
He thought, 'Do I love Ophelia? How could I love her? But why was I so furious just now? No. It must be Seraphina's fault! She was too nosy, and that made me lose my temper. That's right. That must be the reason.'
Finnegan quickly found an excuse for himself. He wouldn't fall in love with his own secretary, especially not one who was engaged to another man.
When Finnegan returned to Orchid Garden, Ophelia had already finished the proposal and left. There was a sticky note on the table, saying, "Mr. Abbott, please review."
Finnegan frowned slightly. After briefly going through the proposal, he found that Ophelia's work was genuinely good. It was even more perfect than before, and he adopted it immediately.
In the following days, Finnegan intentionally avoided Ophelia. When going out for social engagements, he no longer took her with him.
As a capitalist, Finnegan naturally didn't want to waste Ophelia's talent. As a result, her workload increased.
Ophelia was busy every day, sometimes working overtime at home. But since she didn't need to see Finnegan daily, she felt quite at ease.
After the argument with Seraphina, Ophelia had been blocked by her.
Angry and busy with work, Ophelia decided to give Seraphina the cold shoulder for a while and didn't reach out to her.
Their friendship had lasted for more than twenty years, and Ophelia believed that no hard feelings between them could stay overnight.
Time flew, and a month passed.
One day, when Ophelia had just finished her work and was stretching, Linda approached her, asking, "Ophelia, did you offend Mr. Abbott?"
"No. Why?" Ophelia was puzzled. "Linda, what happened? Did I make a mistake at work? I haven't spoken to Mr. Abbott in a long time. How could I have offended him?"
"You haven't spoken to Mr. Abbott for a long time, and that's the problem, okay? The entire secretarial department has noticed Mr. Abbott has some complaints against you. You really realized nothing?" Linda asked curiously.
Ophelia shook her head.
"Mr. Abbott hasn't taken you with him to socialize or to meetings for nearly a month. It's always me, Atticus, and Lisa. Don't you think there are some problems with it?" Linda explained.
Lisa Penn was also a member of the secretarial department.
"Problem? I think everything's quite good," Ophelia said.
She completed her work, and Finnegan didn't trouble her. She had also received her salary today, which was ten thousand dollars. Everything was perfect for her.
Linda felt speechless toward Ophelia's attitude.
She asked, "Ophelia, don't you wanna get promoted and have a raise?"
Ophelia smiled teasingly, "Linda, I'm already Mr. Abbott's secretary. If I get promoted, wouldn't I be taking your and Atticus' jobs?"
Linda laughed, "You little girl. Here, I brought this specialty from my hometown. Try it."
She liked Ophelia for not being aggressive and doing her job well.
Linda handed a jar of canned food to Ophelia, who accepted it without hesitation. "Thank you, Linda."
After Ophelia twisted open the jar, a pungent smell wafted out, causing her stomach to churn. At the same time, a wave of nausea hit her, making her retch.
