Chapter 55 Questioning the Child

"Pregnant, early stage of pregnancy..."
These words were glaringly obvious. The conference room fell into a silence and everyone's eyes were on Ophelia. There was scrutiny, curiosity, and disdain in their gazes.
Ophelia was unmarried and pregnant.
Naturally, everyone was curious about who the father was, especially after her work mistake of projecting her chat screen for everyone to see.
Finnegan, standing on the stage, had a chilling expression. Ophelia didn't dare to lift her head; her face was flushed with embarrassment as she nervously turned off the screen projection.
"Dismissed."
Finnegan's icy voice echoed throughout the conference room via the microphone, "Miss Sinclair, come to my office."
With that, Finnegan strode past Ophelia as a chilling aura emanated from him.
As he brushed past her, Ophelia instinctively stiffened, and her heart pounded as she stepped to the side.
As soon as Finnegan left, Lisa asked, "Ophelia, are you really pregnant?"
There was no way Ophelia would answer at a time like this; there were dozens of eyes on her. She awkwardly left the conference room and headed to the CEO's office.
Just as she reached the door to the CEO's office, she saw Finnegan slam a stack of documents onto the desk with a loud thud.
Ophelia's heart jumped. Gathering her courage, she walked in, closed the door and the curtains. This way, even if Finnegan was furious, outsiders wouldn't see her embarrassment.
"Mr. Abbott."
As Ophelia approached Finnegan, he turned around to face her.
His eyes were piercing, and his hand was tapping on the desk, as his voice, filled with anger, echoed around the room, "Miss Sinclair, what on earth were you doing all day? This is a place of business; it’s not a place for you to flirt and express love."
Finnegan's chest was filled with anger. He knew very well that his anger was not because of Ophelia's work mistake but because Ophelia was pregnant.
She was pregnant?!!
Just a few days ago, Ophelia had told him in person that she was single.
"Mr. Abbott, I'm very sorry." Ophelia knew she was in the wrong, and her attitude was extremely good, as she listened to him with her head slightly bowed.
After seeing her acting so subserviently, Finnegan's anger flared up even more, and his tone grew colder, "Miss Sinclair, I think it's necessary to seriously consider whether we can continue to employ you, a person full of lies, who never tells a single truth. Do you still belong here?"
Finnegan's words were biting, and his tone was very heavy, so heavy that even the people outside the office could hear his voice.
Many employees pricked up their ears to listen to the commotion inside, curious about what was happening.
Upon hearing this, Ophelia suddenly looked up, "Mr. Abbott, listen to my explanation..."
"Is it an explanation or an excuse?" Finnegan leaned on the desk with both hands as a mocking smile played on his lips while he coldly stared at her stomach, "You’re single? Then where did the child in your belly come from? Miss Sinclair, you've only been a regular employee for a little over a month, I have reason to suspect that you have defrauded the company, and your employment contract can be voided."
Finnegan was furious. This was the first time he had been played by a woman, who was seducing him while carrying another man's child. This was blatant deception.
Ophelia stared back at Finnegan's icy eyes. Faced with Finnegan's rage, she felt somewhat calm. She really wanted to tell Finnegan that the baby in her belly was his.
But she didn't know how to say it.
In Finnegan's eyes, she was now a woman full of lies.
Ophelia bowed deeply to Finnegan, apologizing sincerely, "Mr. Abbott, I'm very sorry for disappointing you. I can accept any punishment from the company."
Ophelia had wanted to explain, but now she felt there was no need. He wouldn't believe whatever she said now.
Seeing that she really didn't intend to explain, Finnegan felt another surge of anger.
"So, you're not going to explain?" Finnegan scoffed coldly, "Who is the father of the child in your belly? Is it Magnus?"
The thought of Ophelia carrying another man's child made Finnegan even more irritated, even a bit jealous. Jealous of the man who could make Ophelia bear a new life.
Ophelia shook her head, "No."
After boss's baby, she Escape
