Chapter 649 Lynn's Pain
Addison blushed even more from the teasing and shyly lowered her head. "Ophelia, Lynn, I'll head over now."
"Okay." Lynn and Ophelia smiled, genuinely happy for Addison.
It was truly admirable that Addison could overcome her difficulties, change herself, and become a strong, independent woman of the new era.
Addison smiled as she walked towards the man. They exchanged a few words, Addison accepted the flowers, and they left together.
Ophelia curiously asked Lynn, "What does that guy do?"
"He runs a food processing factory," Lynn said as she led Ophelia to the office. "His name is Brian Jackson, he's forty-two, divorced, with a daughter in high school. He's been divorced for almost ten years and hasn't remarried."
Ophelia pressed on, "Not remarried for ten years? Is he reliable? How did they meet?"
"Addison said they met on the street. Brian had a stomachache, and she happened to see him and took him to the hospital," Lynn explained. "A man who's been divorced for nearly ten years suddenly meets a woman who's so gentle, caring, and attentive. Naturally, he was moved."
"Addison is meticulous, and she's warm and kind," Ophelia noted. "Do you know why Brian got divorced? The reason for the first divorce is important for a second marriage."
"Incompatible personalities. Brian's ex-wife had a bad temper, and they fought a lot. When they divorced, Brian didn't have the assets he has now. He became successful after the divorce," Lynn said, pouring water for Ophelia in the office. "I've been watching Brian for a while. He's a decent guy, the kind who can live a stable life. He and Addison are a good match."
"What about you?" Ophelia asked with a smile. "You're worried about others, but what about your own matters?"
Everyone knew Carl had always silently loved and supported Lynn.
As long as Lynn turned around, Carl would be there.
Lynn smiled and said, "I'm a non-marriage advocate."
"Come on," Ophelia said. "Lynn, I hope you find happiness too."
Lynn had returned to the country for Finnegan.
Knowing that she and Finnegan were no longer possible, Lynn gave up on that idea but couldn't fall in love with anyone else.
Half-jokingly and half-seriously, Lynn said, "I just blame meeting someone too amazing in my youth. Everyone else seems too ordinary after that."
Ophelia wasn't angry because Lynn was telling the truth. Anyone who met Finnegan in their youth would definitely not see anyone else.
"This is Finnegan's fault. I'll talk to him about it."
The two shared a smile, and Lynn changed the subject. "How are the wedding preparations going?"
"Almost done," Ophelia said. "Finnegan is handling most of the wedding stuff. Today, he's out tasting wine."
"He owes you this wedding. It's about time he made it up to you," Lynn said. "I'm really looking forward to your big day. Warmie is getting cuter by the day. I wish I had such an adorable daughter, but I'll never have my own child in this lifetime."
Lynn's moment of sentimentality made her slip.
Ophelia was surprised. "Why?"
Lynn shook her head and casually lied, "No man, no kids. When I turn thirty, I'll adopt a child and live like that."
Ophelia didn't know what to say. She vaguely sensed that Lynn wasn't telling the truth.
When Lynn returned from abroad, it was clearly for Finnegan. She collaborated with Celia, trying to break up Ophelia and Finnegan, but later gave up.
Was Lynn's giving up really because she lost the bet with Finnegan?
Ophelia felt there was more to it, but since Lynn didn't say, she didn't ask.
Ophelia stayed with Lynn for a while before leaving. After she left, Lynn took a bottle of red wine from the wine cabinet and poured herself a glass.
Half-drunk, Lynn's eyes showed sadness. She was still in her dance clothes, resting against the sofa, giving off a melancholic vibe.
Lynn recalled the events after being schemed against by Celia. She still hadn't let go of her hatred for Celia and probably never would.
Lynn had a scar in her heart that she hadn't told anyone about.
The only person who knew about this scar was Carl.
Years ago, Lynn had an unexpected pregnancy. Scared, she opted for a medical abortion, which hurt her body and made it hard for her to conceive again.
This was one reason she couldn't accept Carl.
She held onto resentment, leading to a long bout of depression. Later, seeing Finnegan's love for Ophelia, she realized she'd never get that kind of look from Finnegan again.
