Chapter 382 Big Trouble
Natalie had just finished a phone call, when she heard Dovie's voice behind her.
"Natalie, who were you talking to on the phone?"
After two days in the hospital, Dovie had been discharged, but her health was still poor. She was resting at home and couldn't go to the company.
Dovie didn't know that the food she ate every day was actually worsening her liver function. Each meal, paired with fruit, water, or tea, subtly damaged her body through the principles of mutual reinforcement and restraint.
Natalie was startled and felt guilty. "I was talking to a friend. Are you going out?"
"I'm going to check on the Abbott Family. Finnegan's issue hasn't been resolved yet. I heard the France police are still holding him." Dovie said, looking unwell but determined to visit the Abbott Family.
"You shouldn't go. Your physical condition isn't optimal, and you might faint again." Natalie advised. "You should rest more and just call them."
"Calling is not the same as going in person." Dovie insisted. "I need to go myself."
Natalie couldn't change her mind, so she let it go.
Dovie had the driver take her to the Abbott Family estate. Old Abbott had been very worried lately and wasn't feeling well either. She had just taken some medicine and was preparing to sleep for a while.
Jude greeted Dovie when she arrived.
Seeing that Dovie didn't look well, Jude asked with concern, "Are you sick?"
"I wasn't feeling well a few days ago and stayed in the hospital for two days." Dovie replied. "How is Finnegan's situation? And Ophelia? Is she okay?"
"The France laws are too strict, especially regarding rape charges. They take it very seriously. This time, Finnegan is over there, and they want the Abbott Family to face severe consequences. It's not going to be easy to get him out." Jude said angrily. "I think it's a trap set by those France officials. This is a setup. Why should they believe everything that woman says? Finnegan definitely didn't do it."
Finnegan was a wealthy entrepreneur. When he faced such an issue in a foreign country, he was bound to be targeted.
They needed a lawyer who specialized in such cases to resolve the current situation.
Dovie said, "I also believe in Finnegan. This is likely more than just a setup. The people and interests involved behind the scenes are very complex. But the urgent matter now is to get Finnegan out and bring him back to the country."
Being in the business world, Dovie naturally understood these conspiracies.
Jude sighed, "Ophelia has already gone to France. I hope she can bring Finnegan back."
Dovie was worried. "Ophelia went to France? Alone? She's pregnant. How could she go? She was bleeding before. She can't be careless."
"Ophelia took bodyguards with her. She didn't inform us beforehand and went on her own. We couldn't stop her."
The plane flew for nearly forty hours before landing at a French airport.
The first thing Ophelia did after landing was contact Atticus. She planned to meet Finnegan at the local police station.
Finnegan had been detained for almost a month. Atticus had tried to post bail but couldn't get him released. Only the lawyer had seen Finnegan in person.
Atticus was surprised to see Ophelia.
Ophelia's belly was very large as she was almost six months pregnant.
"Ophelia." Atticus asked, "Why are you here? Alone?"
Tate walked over silently, carrying the luggage.
Atticus saw Tate and asked, "Just the two of you?"
Tate nodded.
Atticus was anxious. "Tate, why did you bring Ophelia here? The situation here is complicated. Ophelia is pregnant. If something happens, how will I explain it to Finnegan?"
Tate said, "I can ensure Ophelia's safety."
Ophelia also said, "Atticus, stop talking nonsense. I'm already here. I want to see Finnegan. Can you arrange it?"
Atticus shook his head. "No, I can't see him either. The woman Finnegan got involved with, Mary, is the goddaughter of a local gang leader. Both the criminal underworld and the authorities are suppressing us. It's not easy to see Finnegan."
"Then I want to see this Mary. If you can't arrange it, give me her information, and I'll find a way." Ophelia said firmly. "Since I'm here, I will definitely bring him back."
