Chapter 112 Did She Find the Right Kid?

Caspian was stupefied, "Finnegan, you and Miss Sinclair had a one-night stand? That's astonishing."

Caspian stood up in shock, and then another thought struck him, "I remember accusing Miss Sinclair of being mistreated by some jerk. Turns out, that guy was you, Finnegan?"

Jerk?

Finnegan shot Caspian a look that could kill.

With a nervous laugh, Caspian backpedaled, "Slip of the tongue, my bad. Finnegan, you're quite something. Here I was thinking your pursuit of the lady was just beginning, not knowing you two had already hit the sheets."

"Watch your mouth," Finnegan warned him, "especially around the old mansion. I promised Ophelia we'd keep it under wraps for now."

"Finnegan, are you and Miss Sinclair having a secret romance?" Caspian asked curiously. "Was it Miss Sinclair's idea? That doesn't seem right. As the girlfriend of the person in charge at Abbott Corporation, shouldn't she be making it public? A secret romance seems so insecure."

If it were anyone else, they would indeed want the whole world to know. If they didn't announce it, how would others know she's Finnegan's girlfriend?

Finnegan replied in a low voice, "She doesn't adapt well, feels insecure, wants to keep her options open, afraid that one day if I dump her, she'd feel embarrassed, or it would cause unnecessary trouble. I don't want others to interfere, so I agreed to her suggestion."

Dating was a matter between two people, so he didn't need to report it to anyone.

He also wanted to have a simple relationship with Ophelia, just like ordinary people.

If he made it public, people from the old mansion would interfere, and those he had offended, his enemies, would then target Ophelia.

A secret romance could avoid a lot of trouble and danger.

"Holy smokes, Finnegan, you've got Miss Sinclair all figured out?" Caspian exclaimed. "Is this what you call dating? Isn't dating all about guessing, playing a game of hide and seek? My ex-girlfriends were so scheming, I never knew what they were thinking, I always guessed wrong, but you, you're playing with open cards."

"Is it that difficult?" Finnegan countered.

Caspian fell silent.

"Finnegan, you already know Miss Sinclair feels insecure, and still, you agreed?" Caspian questioned. "Aren't you worried Miss Sinclair might overthink things?"

"She definitely will overthink." Finnegan lit a cigarette. "Even if I went public, she would overthink."

Indeed, Finnegan had a good understanding of Ophelia. If he hadn't agreed at that moment, Ophelia wouldn't have truly felt secure either.

Caspian gestured dismissively. "Smart people dating, it really is different. Oh, by the way, there's a birthday party for the Parks Family next Tuesday. Are you going? Niamh has already invited me, and she dropped hints that you would definitely be there."

They were all from the same circle, which was rather small and comprised of wealthy second-generation young adults from A City who knew each other.

Finnegan replied curtly, "I'm busy."

He really didn't have the time, because that day was Ophelia's birthday. As her boyfriend, he had to have that figured out—her company profile would confirm it with a simple check. Caspian chuckled. "This is going to be quite a show. Niamh is known for being spoiled and willful and I doubt whether Dovie found the right kid all those years ago. A strong woman like Dovie, how could she have such a useless daughter? There's not an ounce of Dovie's genes in Niamh. If you're not going to her birthday party, then neither am I."

Caspian had little fondness for Niamh. She was only brought into this circle at the age of fifteen. A 15-year gap was hard to bridge, especially when the upbringing and education were so different. It seemed impossible for her to catch up in just a few years. Niamh's academic credentials were all bought with money. In reality, she was a nobody beyond having a powerful backing.

Niamh was known for her lavish spending and always wanted to be the center of attention. Naturally, there were plenty of people willing to hang around her for the fun of it. However, those rich kids who played with her were the ones their families had given up on—none of them were being groomed as heirs, and even their pocket money was regulated. These people were always short on cash, so with Niamh willing to foot the bill, of course, they'd be happy to tag along. Put bluntly, they saw Niamh as nothing more than an easy mark.

And Niamh? She reveled in the admiration, basking in the feel of being adored.
