Chapter 158: Meeting Important People
Magnus donated blood, and all his indexes were suitable. In order to earn more money, he said to the staff, "Take more, my body is fine, it's no problem."
The staff said, "We can only draw this much at once. Taking more would be excessive. Eat some eggs when you go back to replenish."
After donating blood, Magnus received the eggs and milk, and he planned to take them back to supplement his parents and older brother.
Looking at the time, it was almost six o'clock. Magnus quickly drove to the restaurant for dinner.
The place was chosen by Finnegan, and even if it was ordinary, it was a place where Magnus couldn't afford to dine. When he arrived at the door, he was amazed by the grand and majestic entrance.
The service here was excellent. Magnus stated the private room number and was escorted by a waiter.
The restaurant was very large, and Magnus walked for quite a while before arriving at the dining area, the Narcissus Pavilion Room.
"Sir, this is it," the waiter said, opening the door.
Magnus glanced at the splendid decoration and guessed who else was inside.
Sure enough, when Magnus walked in, Finnegan and Ophelia were sitting in the private room.
"Magnus," Ophelia stood up and waved when she saw him.
"Ophelia," Magnus walked over, his gaze shifting to Finnegan.
Ophelia introduced the two formally, "Magnus, this is Finnegan, someone you know. Finnegan, this is my best friend and also my family whom I grew up with. Magnus, as I mentioned before, he is a lawyer."
The two had met before, outside Abbott's Corporation building.
At that time, Finnegan was sitting in the car, witnessing Ophelia and Magnus talking at the company entrance.
Back then, Finnegan mistakenly thought Magnus was Ophelia's boyfriend.
Finnegan stood up and extended his hand, "Hello, I am Ophelia's husband, Finnegan. She has mentioned you several times, and I've always wanted to meet you. Thank you for taking care of Ophelia all these years."
The word "husband" left Magnus baffled and Ophelia slightly stunned.
She quickly understood Finnegan's intention; this was a subtle contest between men.
This guy is really petty.
Finnegan spoke, and Ophelia generously admitted, "Finnegan and I obtained a marriage certificate. We just got it yesterday, so we invited you to dinner today to share this good news."
Ophelia did not invite Seraphina to the dinner. It would have been too awkward. Seraphina had previously lived in Orchid Garden. Even if Finnegan had never been involved with Seraphina, it would still be uncomfortable.
She had also had a falling out with Seraphina, so it would be even more inappropriate to invite her to dinner. Seraphina might think she was showing off.
Hearing the news of their marriage, Magnus was extremely shocked. Just last night, Seraphina was analyzing that Finnegan and Ophelia could never be together. And now he hears this good news from the two, which both surprised and delighted him.
Magnus quickly extended his hand, excited yet somewhat flustered, "Congratulations on your marriage. This is great news, truly great. I didn't bring any gifts...I...I drink. Ophelia, let's have a toast."
Magnus was a bit incoherent. While he was happy, he also knew that there was no possibility for him and Ophelia anymore.
Seeing Ophelia marry Finnegan, Magnus felt mixed emotions, but he genuinely rejoiced for her.
In his flustered state, Magnus poured two glasses of wine and thoughtfully poured juice for Ophelia as well.
"Ophelia, Mr. Abbott, I admire both of you," Magnus lifted his glass, somewhat excitedly said, "I am truly happy that Ophelia has found happiness. Mr. Abbott, you must treat Ophelia well, she is truly a great girl. Ophelia has no parents, I am her brother, and even though I have no special abilities, I will never spare you if you mistreat Ophelia."
This was the kind of assertiveness expected from a brother.
Ophelia was deeply touched, her nose tingling with a sour sensation. "Magnus, thank you."
Finnegan lifted his glass, glanced at Ophelia, and then reassured Magnus, "Rest assured, I will treat her well, cherish her, and never let her down."
"Wishing you a long and happy life together." Magnus was satisfied, as long as Finnegan said these words, it was enough.
Magnus finished his drink in one gulp, and so did Finnegan.
Ophelia drank her juice, also finishing it in one gulp.
The three of them sat down to eat, Magnus was in a great mood today and continued to drink with Finnegan.
Ophelia noticed that Magnus had something on his mind and secretly signaled Finnegan with her eyes.
Finnegan understood, discreetly patting Ophelia's leg under the table to assure her that he had self-control.
Magnus had been feeling suffocated and oppressed these past few days, he needed to drink like this.
Celebrating Ophelia's marriage, it was necessary to drink and be merry.
The three of them drank for two hours, the sky had long turned dark. Finnegan had a strong tolerance for alcohol and did not show any signs of intoxication, while Magnus stumbled in his steps.
Finnegan supported him as they left the private room, their arms around each other, and this scene happened to be seen by Damon, their boss from the adjacent room.
Damon rubbed his eyes, his face showing surprise. "Holden, is that Finnegan from Abbott's Corporation? And the person he's supporting is our company's Magnus? How does Magnus know such a prominent figure?"
