Chapter 734 The Return Banquet Begins
Landon and Raymond exchanged a look. From a guy's intuition, it seemed like Finnegan and Lily were having some kind of conflict.
But to everyone else, Lily was Ophelia, so it was weird seeing such a once-loving couple now acting distant.
Raymond stepped forward and greeted, "Finnegan, Ophelia, Tate's not here yet. Why don't you guys take a break first?"
Finnegan responded lightly. In front of others, he could still keep his emotions in check.
Raymond led them to the lounge area and had a waiter bring over coffee. He then started some small talk, "How's Ophelia doing these days? Is her memory coming back at all??"
Raymond was still curious to know from Lily what had happened when she was taken by Lloyd and how she survived.
Finnegan sighed, looking over at Lily. "Not much luck with the memory stuff, but hey, at least she's doing alright. She's still Ophelia."
Lily felt uncomfortable hearing this. Finnegan's obsession was too deep; his tone made it clear he had no intention of letting go.
She hadn't wanted to come today. Being seen together in such places would only make the divorce more difficult.
Raymond glanced at Lily and said, "Safety is the most important thing."
He had once thought Tate was in trouble and felt guilty for many years. When he finally learned Tate was alive, he didn't care about what Tate had done or what had happened.
Lily felt uneasy and said, "I'm going to the restroom."
Finnegan nodded. "Okay."
Their eyes didn't meet. As Lily got up to go to the restroom, Finnegan's gaze followed her until she disappeared around the corner. Only then did he look away and take a sip of coffee.
Raymond noticed all of Finnegan's actions. Because of his profession, Raymond had a keen sense of observation and could pick up on subtle details around him.
"Finnegan, you've lost a lot of weight recently. Are you sick?"
Finnegan had indeed lost a lot of weight, and there were even some gray hairs at his roots.
The previous Finnegan was full of energy and always the center of attention. Now, he looked somewhat frail, and even in a suit, he couldn't hide his changed state.
Finnegan gave a little shrug, forcing a grin. "It's just the heat, you know? Summer does this to me every year. No biggie."
"Maybe try eating light? It's the season, it happens," Raymond said. "And hey, speaking of Tate, you and Ophelia really saved her bacon back at Moonlight Gate. Who knows what would have happened."
Finnegan said in a low voice, "Tate's ability to keep her integrity in such conditions at Moonlight Gate is her own luck. How is Moonlight Gate now?"
"After the typhoon at sea that year, Lloyd died, and many key members were lost to the sea. Moonlight Gate fell into chaos and disbanded," Raymond said. "We captured many Moonlight Gate members, and some were taken out by rivals. There will always be another Moonlight Gate; crime won't stop, and neither will we."
Raymond still felt guilty about the plan from back then.
Finnegan didn't respond. These underworld matters were beyond his control; they were Raymond's responsibility.
As they were talking, Caspian and Tate arrived. Their relationship wasn't public, and on this day of the homecoming party, there was no need to stir up more speculation among the guests.
They entered one after the other to avoid suspicion.
Caspian came in first and immediately saw Finnegan and Raymond chatting in the lounge area. He quickly walked over to greet them, "Finnegan, Raymond."
Raymond saw Tate and stood up. "Tate."
"Raymond." Tate walked over and also greeted Finnegan, "Welcome."
Finnegan nodded and complimented, "Wow, you look great today."
This was a gentlemanly compliment from a man.
"Thank you." Tate glanced around and didn't see Lily. She asked, "Where's Ophelia? Didn't she come with you?"
