Chapter 403 Protecting the Daughter-in-Law with Strength
Ophelia's appearance at this moment made Natalie nervous.
At this critical juncture, she was afraid that the fact that Ophelia was Dovie's biological daughter would be exposed, which would ruin everything.
Jude stepped forward and asked, "Hasn't Dovie woken up yet?"
Natalie replied, "No, she's still in the ICU, in a deep coma. Actually, you didn't need to come to the hospital. We appreciate your kindness but look at you running back and forth. It's such a hassle."
Natalie wanted to send them away.
Niamh stood silently behind Natalie while Ophelia glanced at Niamh and said, "I want to go in and see Dovie."
"No." Niamh immediately refused. "My mom is not in a condition to see anyone right now. She's in a coma. What do you want to see her for?"
Seeing Niamh confront Ophelia, Celia was displeased. "The Parks Family and the Abbott Family have such a deep relationship. We came specifically to visit, and you won't even let us see her? What are you so afraid of us seeing? Is there some conspiracy? Something you don't want people to know?"
Celia now knew that Niamh was not Dovie's biological daughter, so she spoke less politely.
'Not a biological daughter, yet so assertive? Who doesn't know her little schemes?' She thought.
Ophelia was quite surprised by Celia's defense of her. It seemed her status in Celia's heart had risen.
"Celia, don't speak carelessly." Natalie urgently explained, "You've seen Dovie's condition. She's in the ICU. How can we let you see her? We have no conspiracy. If this gets out, what will people think? Those who don't know might think we caused Dovie's illness."
Natalie had no intention of harming Dovie, so she dared to say this.
But Niamh was not innocent. Natalie's words made her feel guilty. If this continued, people might really start to suspect the cause of Dovie's illness.
Niamh learned to endure and said, "It's not that I don't want you to see my mom, but the doctor said she can't have visitors right now. We can only wait here and can't go in."
As she finished speaking, the doctor came over. Celia asked, "Doctor, can we go in to see the patient? Just for a little while, let my daughter-in-law go in alone."
This was the first time Celia publicly acknowledged Ophelia's status.
The doctor said, "You can visit, but not for too long."
These words made Niamh extremely embarrassed.
"It won't be long, just a moment." Celia thanked the doctor and then said to Ophelia, "Go change your clothes and go see Dovie."
This sudden address as daughter-in-law left Ophelia momentarily stunned.
Seeing her unresponsive, Celia tugged Ophelia's arm. "Hurry up."
"Okay." Ophelia snapped back to reality.
Natalie didn't dare let Ophelia go see Dovie alone and quickly said, "I'll go in too."
Ophelia was Dovie's biological daughter after all. Who knew what might happen in the last moments?
Niamh was also uneasy and said, "I'll go in too."
'Finnegan knew her identity, and Ophelia surely did, too. What if she went in and complained to Dovie?' Natalie thought.
Niamh didn't know that her identity had long been exposed.
Natalie and Niamh both had their fears about Ophelia, but for different reasons.
"Why do so many people need to go in? Just let Ophelia go in alone." Celia blocked the two. "Finnegan was practically raised by Dovie and has helped us a lot in business. Finnegan can't come back and is very worried. It's reasonable for Ophelia to see Dovie on his behalf. We've all seen her. Too many people are not good for the patient's recovery, right, doctor?"
Dr. Golden didn't understand their little schemes, only the surface meaning, and said, "Indeed, too many people are not advisable."
"See, even the doctor says so." Celia didn't give Niamh and Natalie a chance, gently pushing Ophelia toward the ICU.
