Chapter 750 Susan Comes to Pay Respects to Ophelia
Eugene smiled modestly at his friend's praise and said, "Karen, always the playful one, has recently decided to try her hand at business."
"That's great," the man replied. "Eugene, you're the envy of us all. Two beautiful, intelligent daughters. You're a lucky man."
Eugene felt proud of his daughters.
While they chatted, Tate stayed quiet out of respect.
Karen, eager to show off, kept asking the middle-aged man about the new energy project. He was interested since it was today's topic.
Eugene was intrigued too, and they planned to collaborate on the project.
Karen didn't really understand the technical stuff but pretended she did.
Eugene asked Tate, "So, Tate, what are your thoughts on this new energy car?"
Before Tate could answer, Karen said, "Don't be shy, Tate! Just tell us what you think. It's alright if you're wrong, they don't bite."
This seemed encouraging but implied Tate couldn't contribute meaningfully.
Karen doubted Tate's knowledge, thinking if she were capable, she wouldn't have ended up in prison. She also didn't believe Tate's background of being adopted, growing up abroad, and getting a higher education.
Tate said, "The domestic market for new energy vehicles is still new. Many are eyeing this sector. It's sustainable for energy-saving but inconvenient for long distances, meaning families might need two cars. Few can afford that. The investment cost is high, and the payback period is long. Be cautious."
Tate's consumer-focused analysis hit the group's concerns, and they were satisfied. Eugene nodded proudly.
Tate received praise, while Karen watched in frustration as Tate stole the spotlight.
Seeing Tate's insight, the conversation deepened. Someone challenged Tate with tricky questions in his native language.
Karen couldn't understand the questions, let alone answer them.
Tate answered calmly, knowing this social event was a test set by Eugene.
Tate's performance impressed Eugene's friends, making him happy.
Meanwhile, Lily and Susan arrived in Oceanview City. Lily arranged for Susan to stay at her home, not comfortable letting her stay in a hotel.
Dylan knew Susan's purpose and treated her warmly with good food and drinks.
Susan raised her glass and said to Dylan, "Lily told me about Ophelia. Thank you for letting her leave with dignity."
Dylan, feeling guilty, said, "Please don't say that. Ophelia saved my daughter. We can never repay that kindness."
Susan let out a long, weary sigh. "Fate," she murmured, her voice laced with resignation. "It's always playing tricks on us, isn't it?"
It was late when they arrived, so they didn't go to the cemetery. Lily planned to take Susan there tomorrow.
Dylan also felt sorry for Ophelia dying so young.
