Chapter 276 Accusing Magnus
Natalie immediately searched for the address of the orphanage online. It was located in the northern part of the city, not far from the Parks Family, and twenty years had passed since she had taken Dovie's daughter and left her at a garbage dump. Now, that dump had been replaced by skyscrapers, and the fate of the abandoned baby remained unknown.
After confirming the address, Natalie drove straight to the orphanage.
Meanwhile, the online controversy continued to escalate. Journalist Molise, in her quest for more views, had irresponsibly meddled in the matter and led to several women taking their own lives. Molise faced severe backlash from netizens, and the TV station was unable to withstand the public pressure and dismissed her for her professional negligence.
As Molise left the TV station, carrying her belongings in a cardboard box, she was met with a barrage of insults from outraged individuals.
"You're despicable! You pushed those women into a corner just for the sake of sensationalism!"
"How can you be so heartless, especially as a woman yourself? What kind of person are you?"
"Do you even have a conscience? Can you sleep at night knowing that those women might have taken their own lives because of you?"
"You're a disgrace to society, a cancer!"
The angry netizens not only verbally attacked Molise but also engaged in extreme and irrational behavior. Fearing for her safety, Molise quickly sought refuge inside the company and dared not venture outside. She had become like a mouse, unable to show her face in public.
Despite the public outcry against her, Magnus felt no sense of satisfaction. How could he feel happy when the brief period of family warmth had ended in such a way?
After Riley dropped Serenity off at school, she returned home to find it empty. Everyone was gone. She called Tobias and eventually found him and Jett under a bridge. Their belongings were scattered on the ground, and both of them were injured and had been attacked by nearby beggars. The beggars had mistaken Tobias and Jett for intruders, leading to the altercation.
Tobias, being older, and Jett, being paralyzed, stood no chance against the group of beggars. Both of them were bruised and battered.
When Riley saw Tobias, tears welled up in her eyes. "What's going on? Why are you both here and not at home?"
Riley had not seen the trending news online; she was illiterate and not tech-savvy.
"It's all because of that scumbag, Magnus. He's the one who kicked us out," Tobias said angrily. "Look at the son you gave birth to. He's turned against his father and brother. Just wait and see. I'll sue him. I'm his father, and he can't ignore me. I'll go to the police station and report that idiot Magnus."
Tobias had yet to return to his hometown. He was determined to confront Magnus. In his mind, there was only one truth. He was Magnus's biological father, and Magnus had a responsibility to take care of him.
"Magnus kicked you out?" Riley, with tears in her eyes, looked at Tobias and then at Jett. She hesitated, wiped her tears, and said, "Let's go back to Apex Village."
"You can go back on your own," Tobias said angrily. "What will I do if we go back? Are you saying that I should farm? I have a son who I don't rely on. Why should I farm?"
Jett asked weakly, "Is Serenity at school? Now that Magnus has kicked us out, what should we do about Serenity's education? We have to find Magnus and hold him accountable, or else how will our family survive? Are you going to let us beg? Let Serenity drop out of school? Do you know where Magnus lives? Does he live at his friend's house?"
Riley, thinking of her granddaughter and her paralyzed eldest son, wiped her tears and said, "I'll go find Magnus. I'll talk to him. We're family. How can things have come to this?"
Riley was easily swayed and had naive thoughts. She just wanted the family to return to how it was before and for Magnus to continue providing for them.
Tobias said firmly, "You go tell Magnus that he either gives me two million or supports me in my old age. Otherwise, I'll sue him for being unfilial. I'm his father, and he has to support me. That's the way it is."
