Chapter 154: The Trap
Just as Seraphina gathered her courage to approach, Magnus pulled up the blanket and laid down to sleep.
Seraphina closed her eyes and banished her thoughts.
After having seen many wealthy people, Seraphina gradually looked down on Magnus in her heart. Her earlier thoughts were just a result of natural instincts.
Seraphina stared at the ceiling and said, "Magnus, I have a question for you. If one day Finnegan doesn't want Ophelia anymore, would you take over?"
This statement made Magnus sit up abruptly, his voice stern. "Seraphina, how could you have such thoughts?"
"I am speaking the truth. What background does Ophelia have? Can Finnegan really marry her?" Seraphina sneered. "It's simply impossible. Finnegan is not foolish. People from wealthy families care about matching backgrounds. Besides being young and beautiful, what other qualities does Ophelia have? Finnegan doesn't lack young and beautiful women."
Seraphina's words were realistic, and Magnus couldn't help but worry about Ophelia.
Men are fickle. A wealthy person like Finnegan, who can believe that he would be completely devoted? Even ordinary people can't achieve that, let alone Finnegan.
Seraphina said sarcastically, "Let Ophelia wait to be dumped. I'm an example."
Magnus said, "If Finnegan dumped you, it's because you impersonated Ophelia. He never wanted you in the first place."
This remark infuriated Seraphina, and she turned over and didn't speak anymore.
Magnus also remained silent, lying down to prepare for sleep. At this moment, Jett Cobb shouted loudly from inside the room, "Magnus, Magnus, I need to pee."
Upon hearing the sound, Seraphina pretended to be asleep.
Magnus had to get up and attend to Jett Cobb.
Now, Mrs. Riley and Tobias Cobb no longer got up at night to take care of Jett Cobb. This responsibility had fallen on Magnus.
Mrs. Riley's health was poor. She would frequently wake up at night, either feeling pain here or there.
Mrs. Riley would play the victim in front of Magnus, and he couldn't help but take over the responsibility of looking after Jett Cobb at night.
Magnus worked during the day and had to take care of Jett Cobb at night. He was exhausted every day.
By the time Magnus finished washing and changing Jett Cobb, half an hour had already passed.
Collapsed from exhaustion, Magnus lay down on the sofa and fell asleep.
At the hospital,
Dovie first went to the police station to handle Sybil's matter, then sought help in managing the online criticism against Niamh. Only then did she come to the hospital.
After being upset all day, Niamh cried when she saw Dovie. "Mom, the whole internet is criticizing me. It's all because of that Sybil and Ophelia. I'm being hated on, and if Finnegan sees this, he will definitely not want me."
Dovie frowned, "Niamh, did you tell me that you asked the Wang family for the money back and threatened them?"
Dovie, being a successful businesswoman, was not foolish. However, she was overly fond of her daughter and chose to protect and indulge her.
Niamh denied, "Sybil is making up stories. I didn't do that, Mom. Why don't you believe me? Moreover, it was Niamh's parents who tried to extort and scam others back then. They caused the accident themselves. What does that have to do with me?"
"Niamh, why won't you admit your wrongdoing even now?" Dovie was disappointed. "I went to the police station to confront Sybil, and she showed evidence that you went seven years ago to get the money back and threatened them. You were the one who caused the accident while drunk driving. How come you haven't shown any remorse?"
"Mom, how can you be like this? Why are you taking the side of outsiders now?" Niamh got angry. "You're only being influenced by Ophelia. Now you're against me. I am your daughter!"
"Niamh," Dovie angrily called out her full name, "This has nothing to do with Ophelia. Stop dragging others into this. Right now, I'm talking about the accident that happened years ago. Did you or did you not do it?"
Niamh stubbornly refused to admit her mistake, "No."
"How did I end up with a daughter like you?" Dovie's heart ached with frustration. "Niamh, it's okay to make mistakes, and as your mother, I can teach you and help you make amends. But you have to acknowledge your mistakes."
"Mom, have you gone crazy? Sybil tried to kill me by tampering with my car. Were you hoping for something to happen to me? Why did you bring me back then? You should have left me to fend for myself."
