Chapter 663 Caught in the Vortex
Harold didn't tell Susan what Finnegan would face on this trip.
A sleeping baby can make everything peaceful. Harold, now a father himself, couldn't help but think of his own daughter when he looked at the adorable Warmie.
If it weren't for the hurricane, he would have helped Finnegan rescue the people. But in the face of nature, humans are insignificant and powerless.
Susan placed the sleeping Warmie on the couch and looked at Harold with worried eyes. "Is Finnegan going after Ophelia? Is the hurricane really coming? Are they in danger?"
Susan's voice trembled; she knew all the risks.
Harold nodded, saying nothing, which explained everything.
Susan's eyes immediately welled up with tears. She glanced at the sleeping Warmie, feeling even more sorrowful.
The ship sailed into a safe zone as the hurricane approached.
Harold looked at the eye of the hurricane. A tornado had already formed on the sea, tearing everything apart. The sea wind howled, and the waves rose higher and higher. This was just the beginning.
Even in the safe zone, the ship was shaking. Susan quickly picked up Warmie, who woke up and started crying loudly.
Perhaps it was Warmie's crying that stirred Harold's compassion. He went to the deck and had someone bring out a newly developed diving device from the organization. After putting it on, he boarded a speedboat and headed in the direction Finnegan had gone.
Meanwhile,
The hurricane hit, and the speedboat Lloyd was driving nearly flipped over from the waves. That’s when he realized Harold was right.
It was Ophelia's first time seeing a hurricane at sea, with nowhere to hide. Her heart pounded as she looked out into the distance.
She worried about Finnegan and Warmie, hoping they were safe and not in danger.
Another wave crashed, and the speedboat rocked. Ophelia instinctively grabbed the boat's edge to steady herself.
Lloyd was struggling to stay safe, and even dropped his gun into the sea during the chaos. The speedboat stopped moving and was completely out of control.
The compass broke, and in the pitch-black sea, there was no way to tell which way was which.
Lloyd was also terrified. "The hurricane's really here. Quick, take off your life jacket."
There were no life jackets on the speedboat. As he spoke, Lloyd tried to take off Ophelia's life jacket to give himself an extra layer of protection.
At that moment, the speedboat seemed to be sucked into a massive whirlpool, spinning uncontrollably. Lloyd lost his balance and fell inside the boat.
Ophelia couldn't keep her balance either and fell. The speedboat almost capsized several times. Just as Ophelia was gripped by fear, a flash of white light passed by, accompanied by a familiar voice.
"Ophelia, Ophelia."
It was Finnegan's voice.
Ophelia could barely believe it and didn't dare to respond. If Finnegan knew where she was, he'd come running, danger be damned.
But Ophelia didn't get the chance to reply. In the next moment, a wave lifted the speedboat several meters before it crashed back down, sinking into the water.
Even with a life jacket, Ophelia was thrown into the sea, tossed around by the waves. The cold swallowed her, and she blacked out instantly.
Lloyd got sucked right into the whirlpool, swallowed by the sea.
Finnegan was just a few meters from the whirlpool, and one wrong move could have pulled him in too.
A wave hit, and in the face of nature, even the strongest person realizes how small and powerless they are.
"Ophelia, Ophelia."
Finnegan shouted hoarsely, but the sea wind drowned out his voice. A huge wave hit, and his speedboat flipped over too.
The hurricane raged for nearly half an hour, getting stronger and stronger. Even the nearby coastal city was hit hard, with houses collapsing, seawater flooding the shore, and half the city underwater.
After a terrifying night, the major news outlets reported the hurricane's damage, the death toll in the city, and the number of houses that had collapsed.
Many sea creatures also died, floating on the surface.
When the sea finally calmed down, no one could fathom how many lives the once peaceful ocean had claimed.
Raymond stood on the coastal rocks, staring out to sea. He had no idea what had happened to Finnegan, whether the hurricane had taken him too.
Other cops were busy with local rescue efforts. Landon spotted Raymond. "Raymond, you worried about Finnegan?"
