Chapter 70 Do You Have Feelings for Finnegan?

Ophelia's casual revelation left Magnus flabbergasted. "Who? Finnegan Abbott? Your boss?" He was incredulous. "The billionaire Finnegan has a thing for Seraphina? That's just not feasible! Look, I'm not trying to be harsh on Seraphina, but she's nothing remarkable—average looks, community college grad, not particularly independent, timid, a pushover. At the first sign of trouble, she hides behind you. What could Finnegan possibly see in her?"

Magnus was analyzing the situation both from a man's perspective and with a lawyer's rationality—it just didn't add up.

Throughout school and into the real world, Seraphina had never seemed to accomplish anything significant. Whenever something went wrong, it was up to him and Ophelia to clean up the mess for Seraphina.

Seraphina always counted on Ophelia, who had generously covered half of her college tuition. Throughout their long-standing roommate situation, it was nearly always Ophelia who paid the rent.

Ophelia looked after Seraphina like a sister. Whenever trouble knocked on their door, Ophelia was always the first to step up to the plate.

In the midst of their conversation, they failed to notice the figure standing at the doorway.

Magnus had come home to find the lights still on, his curiosity piqued. Before he even thought about shutting the door, he spotted Ophelia, and the thought of closing it slipped his mind entirely.

Seraphina, who had come to confront Ophelia, overheard Magnus' comments. 'In his eyes, am I really worth nothing?'

His words cut deep, coming from Magnus, the man she secretly adored. She was engulfed by a sense of humiliation and a rising tide of resentment.

Her jealousy towards Ophelia deepened. In the glow of Ophelia's presence, Seraphina felt like a mere insignificant shadow.

Inside the room, Ophelia spoke with a serious and stern tone, "It's true. Seraphina has been sneaky about it, keeping her boyfriend a secret from all of us. It's Finnegan. I saw it with my own eyes, and she admitted to it."

Magnus, with a bemused expression, asked, "What does your boss even see in her?"

He was genuinely curious.

Ophelia clarified, "Finnegan is no longer my boss. I quit my job. I'm in the midst of a job hunt right now. Also, my lease over at Orchid Bay Community expired. I'm going to crash here for a few days if that's cool with you."

Ophelia didn't divulge the part about Seraphina pressuring her to move out.

"You're always welcome here," Magnus replied, inwardly hoping Ophelia would take up a more permanent offer. He glanced at Ophelia, hesitating. "Can you fill me in on what's going on with you and Seraphina? It can't just be about her hiding her liaison with Finnegan from us, can it?"

Magnus studied Ophelia’s expression with quiet concern. “Ophelia, I can tell there’s something weighing on you. If you think of me as a friend, as family, I'm here for you to share whatever it is. With all that's been happening, I’m really worried about you.”

Ophelia knew Magnus must be confused. There had been so much happening to her lately, and his patience up to this point was admirable.

After a lengthy silence, Ophelia mustered the courage and blurted out, “At the last office party, I drank way too much and ended up sleeping with Finnegan.”

This was not something Ophelia would have easily confessed to anyone else.

The reason she confided in Magnus was dual-fold: she trust him and wanted to and put his worries at rest.

Magnus stood up abruptly, shocked. “You slept with Finnegan?”

Embarrassed, Ophelia nodded, nervously ruffling her hair and found it difficult to meet Magnus's gaze. “I was really drunk, and Finnegan had no idea it was me. Seraphina doesn’t know either. However, that’s all behind me now. I’ve left Abbott Corporation and I’m looking to start fresh somewhere else.”

It took a moment for Magnus to digest this bombshell, which was even more sensational than earlier when Ophelia mentioned Seraphina was Finnegan's girlfriend.

Magnus asked anxiously, “Ophelia, do you have feelings for Finnegan?”

He regretted the question as soon as it left his lips.

Finnegan’s caliber was undeniable. Even from a man's standpoint, Magnus felt a mix of envy and admiration for him.

Having worked closely as Finnegan’s secretary day in and day out for a month, and after a night together, Ophelia must have been smitten. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have left Abbott Corporation upon learning about Finnegan and Seraphina's relationship.
