Chapter 404 Collecting Dovie's Hair
Under Celia's strong words, Ophelia entered the intensive care unit alone.
Seeing Dovie surviving on a ventilator, Ophelia felt very sad.
Scenes of her first meeting with Dovie flashed through her mind. During those months at Parks Corporation, Dovie had always taken good care of her.
Dovie even gave her a birthday gift.
In Ophelia's impression, Dovie was like a warm elder, always praising her whether she made mistakes or performed well at work.
Whenever something happened, Dovie would call to check on her.
Thinking about the person lying in the hospital bed, who could very likely be her mother, made Ophelia feel even worse.
She walked to Dovie's side, gently took Dovie's hand, and softly said, "Dovie, it's me, Ophelia. I've come to see you."
Dovie was in a coma and did not respond at all. No matter what Ophelia said, she couldn't hear it.
Ophelia muttered to herself, "Could you really be my biological mother? You have always been as warm as a mother, taking care of me. I have also fantasized that my mother might be as kind and warm as you."
The seriously ill Dovie had long lost her former radiance and demeanor. She seemed to have aged a lot overnight, becoming much thinner, with a pale complexion, lacking the majesty she once had in the business world.
Ophelia couldn't stay inside for long. She had come to collect hair for a paternity test.
Before things were clarified, Ophelia naturally wouldn't pretend to be the heiress of Parks Corporation. If she weren't, it wouldn't just be a simple mistake.
"Dovie, I'm sorry, but I need to take a few strands of your hair."
Hair with follicles was necessary for a paternity test. Ophelia carefully plucked a few strands of Dovie's hair.
To avoid hurting Dovie, Ophelia was very careful and quickly plucked a few strands, placing them in a transparent bag.
Dovie showed no signs of waking up.
Outside the intensive care unit, Niamh and Natalie were both solemn, not daring to leave, their eyes fixed on the ICU door.
They watched the door, and Celia watched them.
Jude found Celia's concern for Ophelia amusing and quietly asked Celia, "Why are you so protective of Ophelia today? Have you accepted her as your daughter-in-law?"
Celia, feeling a bit embarrassed by the teasing, glared at Jude. "You know nothing. Just stand aside."
Celia had yet to tell Jude about Dovie's request.
Jude laughed, "Don't be embarrassed. Just get the money ready for the name change. Otherwise, do you really want your daughter-in-law to call you aunt all the time?
Hearing her call me dad, aren't you a bit envious?"
Celia retorted, "If you don't speak, no one will take you for a mute."
Jude laughed even more.
Soon, Ophelia came out of the ICU, and Niamh hurriedly asked, "Did my mom wake up?"
As long as she didn't wake up, there was no need to worry about Ophelia leaking the secret.
"Dovie is still in a coma." Ophelia replied coldly to Niamh, then said to Jude, "I have visited on behalf of Finnegan. Dad, Aunt, let's go back."
Hearing Ophelia call Jude dad, Celia was waiting for Ophelia to call her mom.
However, Ophelia didn't call her mom. She only called her aunt.
Celia felt a bit disappointed. If Ophelia didn't change her address, there was nothing Celia could do.
Jude saw through Celia's thoughts but didn't expose them, holding back his laughter.
Ophelia, holding her waist, walked ahead, with Jude and Celia following.
Seeing everyone leave, Niamh and Natalie both breathed a sigh of relief.
At the hospital entrance.
Celia said, "Ophelia, since Finnegan hasn't returned, why don't you stay at the old mansion with us for now? Old Abbott misses you too, and having you there will make her happy."
Celia was worried about Ophelia and her unborn child. Deep down, Celia hoped Ophelia would return to the old mansion, but she was too embarrassed to say so directly, using Old Abbott as an excuse.
Ophelia considered it and felt that returning to the old mansion would be better since Finnegan was away from the country.
Ophelia nodded and agreed to return to the old mansion.
This made Celia very happy. She said, "Then get in the car, let's go back to the old house. I'll have the chef prepare some good dishes tonight to nourish you."
Jude was also happy, and they all headed back to the old mansion together.
On the way, Ophelia called Linda, asking her to come to the old mansion to collect the hair for the paternity test.
