Chapter 486 Timid

Katherine's face changed drastically. She did everything to obstruct. Why did the pocket watch end up in Wilder's hands?

"Honey, I..." Katherine couldn't explain.

Wilder walked towards Katherine, his tone turning colder. "Tell me, what is the relationship between me and the woman in the photo, Katherine? I want to hear it from your mouth."

Even though he had already guessed, Wilder still wanted Katherine to say it.

Wilder's faith collapsed. He had always thought that he and Katherine loved each other and were each other's only companions, the most compatible souls in the world.

Fragmented memories in his mind, the photo in the pocket watch, all told Wilder one fact: Katherine was not his true love.

He seemed to have let down the woman he truly loved.

Before Katherine could speak, her eyes were already moist. She couldn't bring herself to tell the truth. "Wilder, please calm down."

"I am calm now." Wilder held up the pocket watch. "I want to hear your answer, Katherine. I trusted you so much, yet you have been deceiving me all along. You made me feel like a failure, like a fool."

"No, that's not true." Katherine shook her head. "Wilder, you are a very successful and romantic person. I didn't dare tell you because I was afraid you would leave me. That woman has passed away, Wilder."

"Twenty-six years, you deceived me for twenty-six years. You are not my lover." Wilder, disappointed and heartbroken, interrupted Katherine, "You are a liar. Your behavior at the restaurant proves it. You know Ophelia is my daughter. She is the most noble princess in the royal family. You made me look like a fool, Katherine. You are too cruel."

Wilder was furious. Even though he couldn't fully remember the past, he knew what was going on. He made a woman wait for him for over twenty years, until death, and they never met.

If he hadn't visited New York to conduct business, he would never have known that he had a daughter.

Ophelia didn't look much like him. She resembled George Parks more. It was a case of genetic inheritance skipping a generation. Ophelia had never imagined that her father would be a foreigner.

Over twenty years ago, Wilder began traveling the world. In New York, he met Dovie. He fell in love with Dovie at first sight, and to pursue her, he put in a lot of effort, even hiding the fact that he was a member of the foreign royal family, joining the Parks family.

Katherine, with tears streaming down her face, said, "Wilder, I'm very sorry. I didn't mean to keep this from you."

"You lied. For over twenty years, you had countless opportunities to explain, but you didn't. You are a selfish person." Wilder tightly gripped the pocket watch, anger evident in his eyes.

"Wilder..."

Before Katherine could finish, Wilder took the pocket watch and walked out.

He was going to see Ophelia, his daughter.

Wilder wanted to know more about Dovie. He even wished to fly to New York immediately to repent at Dovie's grave.

On his way to the hotel to meet Ophelia, Wilder stared at the photo in the pocket watch. More and more memories flooded his mind as if the floodgates of memory had been opened.

As the car was about to reach the hotel, Wilder witnessed a collision between two cars at a crossroads. The sight stimulated his brain, causing him to remember everything.

Twenty-six years ago, Wilder's car was hit and plunged into a river on a bridge in New York.

Later, Katherine brought him back to France, where his injured face underwent reconstructive surgery. He had forgotten the girl he loved the most, the beautiful girl.

At the hotel, Wilder sat in the lobby's lounge area, asking the waiter to bring a bottle of wine, sitting alone and drinking in silence.

Wilder didn't go to see Ophelia, nor did he go home. He just sat there, drinking alone, with all the memories he had regained, his promise to Dovie.

Wilder searched online for information about Dovie, and the first piece of information that popped up was Dovie's date of death.

The woman whom Wilder had vowed to love for a lifetime, after being forgotten by him, spent over twenty lonely years and passed away a few months ago.

A dignified royal prince sitting alone in the hotel lobby, drinking in silence, naturally made the hotel staff anxious. A dozen attendants stood by, waiting.

Finally, Wilder called Finnegan and had him come down.

Finnegan came down alone. Seeing Wilder sitting alone in the lobby, he guessed something had happened.

"Mr. Jennings." Finnegan sat down.

Wilder handed the pocket watch to Finnegan. "I gave it to Ophelia's mother as a token of our love."
