Chapter 162: Coffee with Mother-in-law

Ophelia collected herself and respectfully walked over to Dovie's desk. "CEO, you asked for me," she said.

"Ophelia, you must always stay updated on the Horizon Project. Don't be careless. This afternoon, go to the site in person..." Dovie instructed her.

Ophelia listened attentively, pretending not to recognize Celia, who was beside her. Celia kept staring at Ophelia, observing her attire and behavior. When she noticed the ring on Ophelia's ring finger, an indescribable anger rose within Celia. She was Finnegan's mother, and if Ophelia and Finnegan got a marriage certificate, she would become Ophelia's mother-in-law. Seeing her future mother-in-law not even acknowledging her presence increased Celia's anger even more.

After Dovie finished explaining the tasks, Celia intentionally said, "Dovie, what's this employee's name? Can she make coffee? I'm thirsty and would like some coffee."

Dovie also didn't know if Ophelia knew how to make coffee and glanced at her. Facing Celia, Ophelia said, "Hello, ma'am. My name is Ophelia. I do have some knowledge of making coffee. If you don't mind, I can make it for you now."

There was coffee in the office, and Dovie gestured to Ophelia, "The coffee is in the second drawer on the left."

"Okay," Ophelia took the coffee leaves and began brewing the coffee.

While Ophelia was making coffee, Celia chatted with Dovie and intentionally brought up the subject of their families' marriages. Celia smiled and said, "Dovie, you see, Niamh is also not young anymore. My son is at a suitable age for marriage. Shouldn't we put the engagement between our families on the agenda as well? I really like that Niamh, and I look forward to her becoming my daughter-in-law."

This was a false statement. Celia knew that Jude almost married Dovie in the past, and that hurt her deeply. Moreover, Niamh was currently caught in a media storm, so Celia couldn't truly be satisfied with her. These words were purely meant to provoke Ophelia.

As Celia spoke, she purposefully glanced at Ophelia making coffee, observing her reaction.
Ophelia did not respond at all, which annoyed Celia.
Dovie politely said, "Let the two kids decide about this matter. I respect their opinions."
Dovie said this because she could sense that Finnegan was not very happy about the marriage.
If they blindly arranged the engagement, it would become messy and could also hurt Niamh.
As a mother, Dovie considered her daughter's well-being.
"Both families have been engaged for decades, and the old lady at home often mentions it," Celia said with a smile. "Niamh is capable, beautiful, and kind. Anyway, I am satisfied. I saw the hot search on the Internet, is that Sybil trying to extort money? Niamh is a kind child and wouldn't do such a thing."
Celia didn't really believe it; she was just pretending to defend Niamh.
Dovie felt a bit awkward; there were some things she couldn't say: "This matter has already been resolved."
Celia asked, concerned, "When will Niamh be discharged from the hospital?"
Dovie replied, "She will be discharged tomorrow."
Ophelia finished brewing the coffee, crouched next to the table, poured two cups of coffee, and handed one to Celia, saying, "Ma'am, please have some coffee."
Celia politely said, "Thank you, you've worked hard."
"No trouble," although Ophelia was crouching, she remained composed, with a smile on her face. She said, "This cup of coffee is only right."
This cup of coffee is for her daughter-in-law.
Isn't it the daughter-in-law's duty to respect her mother-in-law?
Celia realized this and didn't dare to drink the coffee even when it reached her lips.
If she drank the coffee, would that mean she accepted Ophelia as her daughter-in-law?
She had just wanted to make things difficult for Ophelia, not to actually drink the daughter-in-law's coffee.
Dovie had already taken a sip and said, "Celia, why aren't you drinking? It tastes good. You said you were thirsty just now, right?"
Celia stared at Ophelia with a grim face, holding the coffee. She couldn't bring herself to drink it or put it down.
Ophelia just smiled and allowed Celia to stare at her like that. After all, she had already respected her daughter-in-law with this cup of coffee.
"Celia?" Dovie reminded her again.
Celia forced a smile and could only drink it. She felt like it was stuck in her throat and didn't want to go down.
Celia deliberately found fault, "Dovie, your employees don't know how to brew coffee. This coffee is too terrible, the water was boiled for too long, and the first run was too slow."
Dovie laughed, "I didn't taste it, Celia. Your mouth is always like this, so difficult."
Ophelia lowered her gaze, humbly learning, "Thank you for the guidance, ma'am. I will remember it."
Celia sighed. She wasn't here to teach Ophelia how to brew coffee. Was Ophelia trying to infuriate her with this submissive attitude of a new daughter-in-law?
After boss's baby, she Escape
