Chapter 494 Natalie is critically ill
Ophelia wanted to figure out whether Niamh tampered with the food and if Natalie was involved.
Emerson recalled, saying, "She ate it. Niamh was quite attentive during that time. Whatever your mom ate, Natalie ate, too. But sometimes, when Natalie wasn't around, Niamh only cooked for your mom. What's wrong?"
Ophelia understood that Niamh had planned to harm both Natalie and Dovie together but couldn't let both of them get into trouble at the same time, as that would be too obvious.
While Niamh focused on harming Dovie, if Natalie also ate the food, then Natalie's body must have had issues as well.
Just as Ophelia had guessed, on that afternoon, Ophelia received a call from Landon. Natalie had fallen ill in prison and applied for medical parole.
Natalie's body was already not in good shape due to eating food that clashed with her system made by Niamh. Natalie endured it for a few months in prison, with a bad environment and poor living conditions, but eventually fell ill.
Landon called Ophelia because Natalie's condition was similar to Dovie's initial situation, with various organs starting to fail, as if severely overdrawn in a short period.
With new doubts arising about Dovie's death, Landon had more questions.
Ophelia rushed to the hospital, where Natalie lay in bed, wearing an oxygen mask, with IVs in her hand and ankle cuffs on her feet.
"Mr. Benedict." Ophelia stood at the door, waving inside.
Landon came out of the room. "Mrs. Abbott."
"What did the doctor say?" Ophelia asked. "Can she be saved?"
Landon shook his head. "It's difficult, similar to Dovie's situation initially. The doctors are conducting tests to see if it's genetic."
Before suspecting foul play in Dovie's death, they needed to rule out any genetic conditions.
Ophelia stared at Natalie on the bed, who was in a semi-conscious state. "Mr. Benedict, I'd like to have a private conversation with Natalie. Also, it's best to have surveillance installed in the room to prevent my mom's tragedy from happening again."
"Alright." Landon granted Ophelia's request and asked the officer guarding the room to step out.
Ophelia pulled up a chair, sat by the bed, and softly called out, "Natalie, Natalie."
Natalie heard the voice, slowly opened her eyes, and upon seeing Ophelia, a deep fear flashed in her eyes.
"You're awake," Ophelia said coldly. "Natalie, I'm sure you understand your current situation. How my mom died will be your fate. But you're even more pitiful than my mom. You've been brought to this state by your daughter. To die at the hands of your flesh and blood must be a terrible feeling, right?"
These words caused Natalie's face to pale, but she pretended not to understand, staring at Ophelia in silence.
"At this point, you'll surely continue to defend Niamh."
Ophelia locked eyes with Natalie. "You should know why my mom fell critically ill. Niamh used the principle of food incompatibility to damage my mom's body every day. Just like you, Niamh didn't spare you either. Can you feel any sorrow? Planning everything for Niamh, only to end up dying at her hands."
"I don't understand what you're saying." Natalie coughed violently a few times, feeling extremely anxious.
Ophelia finally understood the reason behind Dovie's severe illness.
Niamh was in danger.
But with Dovie already buried and the case closed, even if Ophelia knew, there wasn't much she could do.
"You'll understand. You better pray that Niamh doesn't make a mistake or show any weaknesses. Otherwise, severe punishment awaits her. She's caused the deaths of several people. I'll have the doctors run more tests on you and compare them with my mom's medical records. Do you think the authorities will once again suspect Niamh?"
Natalie, in an agitated state, exclaimed, "You can't harm my daughter..."
Before she could finish, Niamh's voice came from outside, "Mom, mom..."
Hearing the voice, fear flashed in Natalie's eyes.
