Chapter 704 Who Was Exactly Saved
In the evening.
The sunset over the ocean was stunning. The horizon seemed endless, blending the sea and sky into one beautiful scene. With the breeze blowing and the waves shimmering, it was the perfect time for a seaside stroll.
When Finnegan and Lily returned to the Cooper family with Warmie, it was just evening.
Since Ophelia's accident, Finnegan has really come to hate the sea.
The same ocean that took his love now just made him mad. But he knew he's gotta go back because that's where Ophelia had her accident, the spot that's most tied to her memory.
Lily had changed Finnegan's attitude towards the sea, allowing him to appreciate the sunset once more.
"Dylan will be back from fishing soon," Lily said. "He goes out every day and returns in the evening. Gavin's probably on a date with his girlfriend. He's so unreliable."
As Lily talked, they arrived at the Cooper family’s house.
Lily knew the code for the lock and entered it, not expecting Gavin to be home.
Gavin had just returned and was surprised to see Lily. "Lily, why are you back? You didn't even give a heads-up..."
Seeing Finnegan holding Warmie's hand, Gavin swallowed the rest of his words. "Why'd you bring this guy back?"
"We came to see Dylan. He should be back soon, right? Did you not cook again? Are there any groceries at home?" Lily asked as she went to the kitchen to check the fridge. Finding it empty, she said, "I'll go to the store to buy some. You entertain Finnegan and Warmie."
Lily then said to Finnegan, "You guys sit here for a bit. I'll go buy some groceries."
"Mom, I want to go," Warmie said, walking towards Lily and holding her hand.
Warmie was very attached to Lily.
"Alright, I'll buy you some toys and snacks later," Lily said, picking up Warmie. She had already embraced the role of a mother and loved Warmie very much.
Finnegan didn't say anything. After Lily left with Warmie, he said to Gavin, "I'm here to thank you for taking in my wife."
"No need for that. We didn't know she was your wife before," Gavin said. "When Dylan comes back, don't say anything out of line. Here, she is my sister, Lily. My dad's health isn't good, so don't upset him."
Gavin tossed a can of beer to Finnegan. "It's cold, have some beer to warm up."
Finnegan caught it and asked, "Was it you who saved my wife?"
"No, it was my sister," Gavin said, sitting down and lowering his head in silence for a moment before continuing. "My sister went out to sea and was missing for a few days. When she came back, she brought back the current Lily."
Finnegan asked casually, "So where is your sister?"
"She passed away," Gavin said, taking a sip of beer. "My sister died a few days after she came back. She had multiple injuries and lost a lot of blood. She held on to come back. After she died, my dad was so shocked that he mistook your wife Ophelia for my sister Lily. Ophelia was injured and had amnesia, so she became my sister Lily. I knew you would come back. I knew it when I saw you ."
Everything made sense, and Finnegan didn't think much of it. "I'm very grateful to your sister for saving my wife. Could you tell me where her grave is? I'd like to pay my respects and express my gratitude."
"There's no need for that," Gavin said. "Don't mention it in front of my dad. You should go back to Yorkhaven soon and not stay too long. When my dad comes back, just say you're here for a holiday visit. Don't mention my sister saving your wife."
"I understand," Finnegan said. "I understand the pain of losing a loved one."
Gavin looked at Finnegan and said nothing more. "Sit for a while. I'll go get Lily's things."
With that, Gavin left.
At the store, Lily bought a lot of groceries, and Warmie helped carry some.
At the checkout, Lily smiled and greeted the store owner, "Sierra, you look thinner. Have you been dieting?"
"Really? I've been dieting lately," Sierra said happily, responding without thinking. Then she couldn't recognize which family Lily belonged to and asked, "Are you new around here?"
Lily said, "Sierra, it's me, Lily."
"Whoa, Lily?" Sierra exclaimed in disbelief. "When did you start rocking this look?"
