Chapter 545 Niamh is Pregnant
Niamh was indeed lucky. After being taken away by the police, she was confirmed to be pregnant.
As a pregnant woman, Niamh was protected by law.
Jesse hired a lawyer for Niamh and tried to bail her out.
If it weren't for the strong background of the Abbott family and Wilder's pressure, Jesse would have already bailed Niamh out.
After a night of interrogation, Niamh only admitted to taking Finnegan away and denied holding him captive.
Shamelessly, she claimed to be Finnegan's savior, saying she happened to pass by and saved him that night.
When the pregnancy news was confirmed, Niamh smiled. The bastard in her belly could save her life.
She knew very well that this was Jesse's child, and the timing of this child was just perfect.
Landon called Ophelia to explain the situation. Currently, the evidence could only charge Niamh with unlawful detention and attempted rape of Finnegan.
Ophelia decided to drop the latter charge, as it would tarnish Finnegan's reputation for life if it got out.
Finnegan, being almost raped by Niamh, would become a laughingstock.
Ophelia instructed the police to keep the rape incident from last night strictly confidential and to only charge Niamh with unlawful detention. As long as Niamh was locked up, there would be fewer problems.
After the call, Ophelia pinched her brow.
"Ophelia." Caspian walked over. "What did the police say?"
He had been in the examination room and heard Ophelia address the caller as Mr. Benedict, so he knew it was the police.
Ophelia sighed, "Niamh is pregnant."
"She's pregnant? So soon?" Caspian was momentarily confused and said, "Wasn't this just last night? How could she be pregnant so quickly?"
Ophelia was speechless.
She glanced at Caspian. "Is your brain just for show? This child can't be Finnegan's."
"Oh, right." Caspian slapped his forehead and laughed, "My bad. I didn't think of that. Whose child is Niamh carrying?"
Ophelia said, "How would I know? Go ask Niamh."
"Who cares whose child it is." Caspian finally realized something. "According to the law, if Niamh is pregnant, she can't be imprisoned."
"Pregnancy only exempts from the death penalty. She's only suspected of unlawful detention of Finnegan, which isn't a capital crime. Pregnancy doesn't really affect anything. With my dad's pressure, Niamh won't be bailed out." A cold light flashed in Ophelia's eyes. "She can stay in there for a while."
There's no evidence yet to directly link Sybil and Dovie's deaths to Niamh. They can wait until Niamh gives birth to prosecute her.
"Even in this situation, there is someone who wants to bail her out?" Caspian said admiringly. "She is really capable."
Ophelia didn't care about that. She went to the examination room. Some scans had been done, and the results were out. Several ophthalmologists still need to discuss the treatment plan.
Finnegan was arranged to stay in the hospital. After Celia and the others stayed for a while, Ophelia sent them home, deciding to stay and take care of Finnegan herself.
Everyone being there with worried faces wouldn't help.
Warmie was still at home, and Ophelia was concerned about her. Celia went back to take care of her, which made Ophelia feel at ease.
After Celia and the others left, Wilder arrived.
Upon learning of Finnegan's blindness, Wilder said, "Ophelia, don't worry. I'll call the best ophthalmologists from Country F to treat Finnegan's eyes."
"Thank you, Dad," Ophelia said, "You should go back to Country F. They need you there too."
Wilder had been here for a long time. Catherine had come once and was sent back by Wilder. Catherine's parents also had a strong background, and if things got out of hand, it would become a royal scandal.
Wilder said, "Ophelia, don't worry about me. I know what I'm doing."
Ophelia looked at Finnegan in the hospital room, feeling deeply distressed. Once, Finnegan was a prominent figure, but now plunged into darkness. She knew Finnegan's calm demeanor was just a facade. He must be miserable inside.
