Chapter 374 I Am Your Mother
Inside the restaurant, Natalie handed the gift she bought to Ophelia and said with a smile, "I'm here to thank you specifically. Thank you for not holding Niamh responsible anymore."
Ophelia remained expressionless. She didn't believe Natalie would genuinely be grateful.
Those two broken fingers were enough for Natalie to hate her and Finnegan.
Ophelia didn't respond, making Natalie feel very awkward, not knowing how to continue.
"I heard you're looking for your biological parents. Any news?" Natalie couldn't hold back any longer.
Ophelia replied indifferently, "Natalie, just say what you want to say all at once. It's uncomfortable to hold it in."
"I have nothing to say. I came today purely to thank you." Natalie laughed dryly.
Ophelia just looked at her.
Natalie anxiously said, "I came to tell you, don't look for your biological parents. They don't want you, so why are you looking for them? If your parents aren't looking for you, it's definitely because they don't want you."
"Then I need to find them even more to ask why they abandoned me." Ophelia said calmly. "Abandonment is a crime that can be punished."
Facing Ophelia's stubborn attitude, Natalie became anxious. She thought that as long as she could stall Ophelia for a while until Niamh took over Parks Corporation, it wouldn't matter, even if Ophelia found out the truth. So she said, "Actually, your biological mother is right in front of you. It's me. But I can't acknowledge you. I didn't want you in the first place. I was deceived and had no choice but to give birth to you."
Ophelia frowned, "That's not what you said last time, Natalie. You said you loved your child, which is why you gave birth. How did it become a matter of no choice now? You say I'm your daughter. What's the evidence?"
"You have a birthmark on your waist, shaped like a crescent moon." Natalie began to act. "Do you remember the last time I dirtied your clothes here? I wanted to see if you had that birthmark. I asked the orphanage, and I'm very sure you are my daughter."
As she spoke, Natalie began to cry, "Ophelia, I lied to you last time. I didn't want anyone to know about my past. I just wanted to make sure you were still alive. I never got married. If I suddenly acknowledged you, what would people think of me?"
Natalie spoke vividly as if it were true.
Ophelia remained unmoved because Natalie's words were inconsistent and full of holes.
But Ophelia didn't expose her.
Natalie suddenly grabbed Ophelia's hand and said, "You can't let people know you're my daughter. Just think of it as my fault. You can pretend I don't exist."
"Words are not enough. Let's do a DNA test." Ophelia said calmly, turning to take a small bag from a drawer. "Pull out a few hairs and put them in here. We'll take it to the hospital for a test."
Natalie was devastated. She didn't expect Ophelia to be so calm.
She just wanted to bluff her way through to prevent Ophelia from investigating further. But if they did a DNA test, wouldn't her lie be exposed?
"We can't do it." Natalie said. "If we do a DNA test, and it proves you're my daughter, and you make it public, my reputation will be ruined."
"Natalie, you keep saying you're my mother, but you refuse to do a DNA test. What are you really after?" Ophelia stared coldly at Natalie. "You know who my real parents are, which is why you're so eager to stop me."
"You are my daughter." Natalie emphasized. "I didn't want to give birth to you back then. If the doctor hadn't said that I wouldn't have another chance to be a mother if I didn't keep you, do you think I would have wanted to give birth?"
Natalie said emotionally, "I was pregnant out of wedlock, which was a disgrace in those days. You weren't the daughter I expected to bring into this world. Looking at you, I think of the man who abandoned me. I hate and resent him. How could I acknowledge you?"
Ophelia's face darkened. "So, you don't acknowledge me, and you're even afraid I'll come looking for you?"
"Yes, I don't acknowledge you. I pretend I never gave birth to you. Don't expect me to admit you're my daughter." Natalie said viciously. "Ophelia, you can be the mistress of the Abbott Family, and we won't expose each other's identities."
Ophelia smirked, "Of course, I won't acknowledge you."
