Chapter 441 The Recent Distance

When Finnegan returned home, it was already late at night.

Ophelia had a nap and was awakened by a nightmare.

Sitting at the bedside, Ophelia stared at the memento left by Dovie, reminiscing. In her memory, Dovie was still a vivid person, as if she had never left.

Hearing footsteps outside, knowing Finnegan had returned, Ophelia put the memento in the drawer.

Finnegan came back with a hind of inebriation. "Ophe, why aren't you asleep yet?"

Finnegan tried to walk as quietly as possible, afraid of waking Ophelia up.

Originally, he wanted to sleep in the adjacent guest room, but he was worried that his absence would make Ophelia worry.

"I just woke up," Ophelia said, "Have you been drinking too much?"

"No, just a little." Finnegan took off his coat, sat on the edge of the bed, held Ophelia's hand, and said, "Joe, Mark, Walker, they were too enthusiastic. I couldn't refuse the drinks. You go to sleep first. I'll take a shower, and I need to greet our little girl."

With that, Finnegan leaned down and kissed Ophelia's belly, whispering, "Lucky, are you asleep? Daddy's back."

Seeing Finnegan's adorable gesture, Ophelia smiled slightly, "It's late in the night. She must be asleep."

"Then I'll take a shower." Finnegan was also afraid of the alcohol fumes bothering Ophelia.

When Finnegan returned, Ophelia was also at ease and lay down to rest.

After a while, Finnegan, feeling refreshed, lifted the covers and slipped in, embracing Ophelia from behind, placing his hand on her belly, holding the two most important people in the world, which brought great comfort to Finnegan.

Finnegan gently stroked Ophelia's belly with his fingertips, feeling that, as a man, there was no greater happiness than this, with his beloved in his arms and their baby about to be born.

Ophelia had a sweet dream, envisioning the baby being born, chubby and cute, reaching out with little chubby hands, sweetly calling out, "Mommy, mommy."

In her dream, Ophelia was smiling, her lips curling upwards. Finnegan heard her laughing in her sleep, causing him to smile too.

The next day, Finnegan had breakfast with Ophelia while Atticus and the driver were waiting outside.

After breakfast, Finnegan left.

Sitting in the car, Atticus began to report. "Mr. Abbott, we have found out about Deacon. Besides being the behind-the-scenes boss of the CC Club, he also controls over a dozen holding companies. Deacon returned from abroad ten years ago, thirty-five years old this year, a self-made man. He is unmarried and has no other relatives except for being close to Niamh. They have known each other for only two years. Deacon's whereabouts are mysterious, and he keeps a low profile, so there isn't much useful information available."

Finnegan coldly ordered, "Investigate all the companies under his control, their business dealings, and financial flows. Everything must be thoroughly checked."

Atticus speculated, "Mr. Abbott, are you looking to see if Deacon's companies are connected to Abbott's Corporation?"

Finnegan said, "I met Deacon last night. He is quite secretive. Niamh is no match for Deacon. The reasons behind their association are still unclear. Keep an eye on them."

From their brief encounter, Finnegan could tell that Deacon was not an admirer of Niamh. He had greater ambitions.

As for Deacon's intentions, Finnegan was not yet sure.

Atticus nodded. "Yes, Mr. Abbott."

After lunch, Tate accompanied Ophelia to go shopping and buy things for the unborn baby.

As they reached the commercial street, Ophelia noticed a traffic jam ahead, with a crowd gathered.

Ophelia said, "Tate, go check ahead."

"Okay." Tate went to check the situation ahead and soon returned. "It's the embassy over here. For safety reasons, the road is blocked, and pedestrians are not allowed in."

"Is it the French embassy?" Ophelia tiptoed to look ahead and saw the people from the French embassy coming out of the commercial street with local leaders.

The special forces began to clear the road, and Ophelia and Tate had to step aside.

As the embassy officials approached, Prince Wilder got closer and closer to Ophelia.

At a distance of four or five meters, Wilder looked towards the crowd, and his gaze met Ophelia's.

In that brief moment, Wilder appeared stunned, fragments of memories flashing in his mind. His expression turned serious, and almost involuntarily, he started walking toward Ophelia.
