Chapter 762 She Is Afraid of the Dark, He Accompanies Her
Finnegan lost it. Seeing Lily, he wanted to tear her apart. He couldn't bear to think that she had Ophelia's face and heart.
To him, Lily didn't deserve anything that belonged to Ophelia.
Without Ophelia's heart, how could he have been so fooled? All the familiarity Lily gave him came from that heart.
Warmie saw Lily as her mom because of that heart.
In Finnegan's eyes, Lily was a murderer, part of the reason Ophelia was dead.
Lily didn't argue; she knew Finnegan was too mad to listen anyway.
No one could accept this.
Finnegan wanted to strangle Lily, but looking at her face, he couldn't. It felt like killing Ophelia himself.
People outside couldn't see but could hear the commotion. Gavin and Dylan were worried.
Dylan yelled, "Finnegan, you can't hurt Lily. Ophelia gave her heart to Lily willingly. She couldn't be saved. Without Lily, Ophelia would've ended up in a fish's belly."
Gavin was anxious too. "Lily shouldn't have gone to the Abbott family. After all she's done, she's still treated like an enemy. Finnegan, if you hurt Lily, I won't let it slide."
Finnegan heard them but didn't open the door. He let Lily go, his voice cold. "Did Ophelia leave any last words?"
His eyes were wet. He hadn't seen Ophelia one last time.
Lily remembered Ophelia calling out Finnegan and Warmie's names as she died. They were the two people she couldn't let go of in her dying moments.
Lily said, "Ophelia stayed in the attic room at my house. She died there. She didn't want to die in the hospital and asked me to bring her back. She was calling your name and Warmie's when she died."
Hearing this, Finnegan felt a sharp pain in his chest. That bed, that familiar feeling, it was because Ophelia had been there.
He couldn't imagine how desperate Ophelia must have been. Yet, in her last moments, he wasn't there.
Thinking of this, Finnegan couldn't hold back his grief. He tasted blood and spat it out.
"Finnegan." Lily was shocked.
People outside heard and thought something happened. Caspian anxiously said, "Finnegan? Finnegan, open the door."
Susan was worried too. "Finnegan, open the door. Let's talk."
Everyone was trying to persuade him, and then the door opened. Finnegan had blood at the corner of his mouth. He looked at them with utter despair, leaving everyone speechless.
Finnegan's look was unforgettable—despair, sorrow, utter hopelessness.
Gavin and Dylan rushed in, worried about Lily. "Lily, did Finnegan hurt you? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Lily looked at Finnegan's back at the door and said, "I'm sorry."
Finnegan said nothing and walked out silently, leaving the hospital.
Susan called after him, "Finnegan, Finnegan!"
"Finnegan." Caspian followed him.
Tate hurriedly followed too.
Finnegan stopped. "Don't follow me."
His words stopped Caspian and Tate.
Finnegan left the hospital and ran into Lynn at the entrance.
Lynn asked, "Finnegan, what's wrong? You have blood at the corner of your mouth. Are you hurt?"
Finnegan didn't seem to see or hear her. He hailed a cab and got in.
He was going to the cemetery. He wanted to be with Ophelia.
'Ophelia was most afraid of the dark. She must be scared being alone in the cemetery,' he thought.
Lynn was puzzled. She saw Susan and the others coming out and asked, "What happened? Finnegan just took a cab and left. What happened?"
