Chapter 447 Knowing that Niamh Cooks for Her
After Niamh being kicked out of the Parks family, the Parks family now only had the nanny, Emerson Callahan, left to look after the house.
When Ophelia and Finnegan arrived, Emerson warmly welcomed them. "You're back."
Emerson was very discreet. When she said 'You're back,' it implied that Ophelia and Finnegan were the masters of this house, and Emerson was just a nanny. She was self-aware and did not overstep her boundaries.
Finnegan and Ophelia were both pleased with Emerson's performance, so it was no wonder Dovie chose her to stay and work in the house for over a decade.
"Auntie Emerson, the due date is in a couple of days, so I came back to check on things," Ophelia said, "We'll stay here tonight and would like to have dinner cooked by you."
"No problem, your mother particularly enjoyed my cooking. I'll make you some of my best dishes tonight," Emerson said happily, "You two rest for a bit. I'll go buy groceries."
Emerson cleaned the house very well. When she had nothing to do at home, she would clean or plant some vegetables in the yard to have fresh produce. Soon, Emerson returned with groceries and started preparing dinner.
While Finnegan dealt with some matters online, Ophelia went upstairs to explore a few rooms and unintentionally entered the room where Niamh used to stay.
The room was tidied up very neatly. The closet was empty, the jewelry was taken away, and even the bedding had been thrown away by Emerson. There were only a few empty vases and a few books on the shelf. Ophelia noticed a space where a book seemed to be missing. 'Why are the other books placed there, except for one missing?' she thought.
As the sky darkened, Emerson went upstairs and said, "Miss, it's time for dinner."
Ophelia asked, "Auntie Emerson, what did Niamh take when she left?"
"Clothes, jewelry, and such, nothing else," Emerson replied, "Mr. Abbott had someone watching, so Niamh didn't dare take anything else. Everything here was left for you by Mrs. Parks. Niamh had no right to take anything."
"Did Niamh like to read books on a regular basis?" Ophelia asked, "The books on this shelf don't seem like mere decorations." There were signs of them being flipped through.
And these were cookbooks. 'Why would Niamh read cookbooks when she had nothing to do?' she thought.
Emerson remembered something. "There were a few times when I saw Niamh reading a book, which was quite strange. During her many years with the Parks family, she never studied anything. There was a period when she was particularly attentive to Mrs. Parks, personally cooking a few meals for her. I think Niamh knew her identity early on, deliberately pleasing Mrs. Parks, wanting to take over the company sooner."
"Niamh reading cookbooks to cook for my mom?" Ophelia was quite surprised. Niamh was really good at being obedient.
"She only did it a few times," Emerson said, "Mrs. Abbott, when is the court hearing? Natalie killed Mrs. Parks. Will she be sentenced to death?"
Ophelia replied, "I consulted a lawyer. She won't be sentenced to death. It's intentional murder, plus various considerations. She should get life imprisonment."
"Life imprisonment is fine. Someone with such a wicked heart shouldn't be let out again. Mrs. Parks was so good to her. It's a pity," Emerson said indignantly, her eyes welling up. "Mrs. Parks was such a good person. What a loss."
Talking about Dovie's death made Ophelia feel uneasy, too. Seeing Ophelia's expression change, Emerson quickly said, "Let's not talk about this. Mrs. Abbott, let's go downstairs and eat."
At this moment, Finnegan also came upstairs to find Ophelia, and the three of them went downstairs together. Emerson's dishes were delicious, and all of Dovie's favorites were there, which Ophelia also enjoyed.
Meanwhile, in a residential building in New York, Niamh, who had returned from Europe, stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, staring at the distant night view. Jesse appeared behind her. "Still not sleeping?"
Jesse Scott, thirty years old, followed Natalie step by step from an employee to Natalie's trusted assistant after graduation. Natalie entrusted all her properties in Europe to him.
Jesse was also a student sponsored by Natalie and nurtured by her.
So, Jesse was very loyal and grateful to Natalie.
"My mother's case will be in court next month. The lawyer said it will be at least life imprisonment," Niamh said with hatred in her eyes. "My mother is ruined, and the person who harmed her will soon become a mother and will have a child. Jesse, what kind of grand gift should I give Ophelia?"
