Chapter 392 Too Eager
Niamh didn't fully grasp the deeper meaning behind Dovie's words. To Niamh, she was not truly a member of the Parks Family, as she wasn't Dovie's biological daughter.
However, Natalie understood perfectly well. Dovie believed that since Niamh bore the Parks surname and she was too ill to manage the company, she had no choice but to hand it over to Niamh.
Natalie felt a twinge of guilt, but she was also elated. After all these years, her long-held wish was finally coming true.
Though she couldn't enter Parks Corporation herself, her daughter could. Ultimately, Parks Corporation would still be under her control. The rule that only the eldest could manage the company was about to be broken.
Dovie's words filled Niamh with joy, though she masked her excitement, saying, "Mom, don't worry. I will manage the company well and won't let you down or ruin the Parks Family."
"That's good." Dovie nodded with relief. She reached out to hold Natalie's hand, saying, "Natalie, don't blame Dad. It's been so many years. I know you've always held a grudge against him, but he had his difficulties. He truly loved you. If I die, help Niamh manage the company."
Dovie spoke slowly, each word a struggle as if her throat were lined with blades, causing immense pain. She was enduring this pain to give her final instructions.
"Don't say that." Natalie said, tears in her eyes. "I don't blame him. I'll find the best doctors to cure you. Don't talk anymore; just rest."
For years, Natalie had harbored resentment, though she never dared to admit it. Such is human nature.
Niamh, on the other hand, cared little for the grudges between the two. She was focused on taking over the company as soon as possible.
Feigning helplessness, Niamh said, "Mom, the board members are outside. Without your appointment, I might not be able to win their support."
Natalie added, "Dovie, you should sign a power of attorney to appoint Niamh as acting chairman. That way, the board won't have any objections."
Given Dovie's condition, a power of attorney was the only viable option, as she needed help to appoint Niamh personally.
"Okay." Dovie coughed a few times. "Niamh, draft a power of attorney. I'll sign it."
Niamh's heart leaped with joy. "Alright, you rest for now. I'll have someone draft the document."
Given Dovie's condition, she shouldn't talk for too long and needed rest. The visiting time in the ICU was also limited.
Having achieved her goal, Niamh immediately called her assistant to bring the power of attorney and a lawyer for notarization.
Natalie was equally pleased. Twenty years of planning was finally coming to fruition.
Once Niamh became the acting chairman, it would be as good as being the official chairman.
Niamh and Natalie waited outside the ICU for a power of attorney.
Niamh had deliberately spread the news of Dovie's critical condition to pressure her into appointing Niamh. However, this also leads Jude and Celia to learn about Dovie's situation.
Jude, deeply concerned, said, "Celia, let's visit the hospital. Dovie just got out of the hospital, and now she's back in. Mom's health isn't good, and Dovie has been taking such good care of her. We can't be heartless."
"I also find it strange. Dovie was fine, and now her health has deteriorated so much that she's been hospitalized twice." Celia said. "Let's go see her. I'm not heartless."
Jude smiled, "I know you're understanding and kind. Let's go now."
The couple arrived at the hospital just as the board members of Parks Corporation were leaving.
Niamh's assistant had already brought a power of attorney, and Niamh was discussing with the doctor about entering the ICU for Dovie's signature.
Celia stepped forward, saying, "Doctor, we'd like to visit too. We're close friends of the patient. I'm Celia, the mother of Finnegan, CEO of Abbott's Corporation."
Celia introduced herself with pride.
Recognizing the Abbott Family, the doctor didn't dare refuse and agreed, "Please put on sterile gowns. The patient needs rest, so keep the visit brief."
Jude nodded, "No problem, doctor. We'll take a quick look."
Niamh was annoyed but had no choice but to let them visit first.
