Chapter 731 The Eve of the Homecoming Banquet
Lily, resolute in her decision, declared, "Talking trash about me to Celia, pushing for my divorce with Finnegan, Celia already caught me with a lover. She'd love to see us split."
"So, you let her find out on purpose," Lynn realized. "You took that call at the mall so I'd hear it."
"Yep," Lily nodded.
Lynn stared at Lily, her face a perfect match for Ophelia's, making it hard to find any flaws. Lynn's suspicion was based on a gut feeling.
Lynn asked, "If Finnegan doesn't suspect you, why not keep pretending? Warmie gets a mom, and Finnegan won't be hurt."
Lily was silent. She had thought about it, but...
Lynn guessed, "You fell for Finnegan, didn't you?"
No one wants to live as someone else's double forever.
Women understand women best.
Lily met Lynn's eyes and said, "He's too good."
After parting with Lily, Lynn was lost in thought. Carl, driving, noticed and asked, "What did Ophelia say? You seem upset."
Lynn trusted Carl completely. She hesitated and said, "The person I met wasn't Ophelia, it was Lily."
"Ophelia lost her memory and goes by Lily now, what's the problem?" Carl didn't get it.
"No, she's Lily, not Ophelia," Lynn exclaimed. "The real Ophelia is dead. This one's a fake."
"A fake?" Carl was shocked and nearly stumbled. He slowed down. "Lynn, what's going on?"
Lynn explained briefly and asked, "Do you think this is believable?"
Carl found it absurd. "Lynn, are you sure Ophelia isn't making this up to cover an affair? She might be so into her lover she's lying."
"Now that you mention it, it's possible," Lynn frowned. "Either way, if Finnegan finds out, he won't handle it well. Honestly, I hope it's true."
"What are you gonna do?" Carl asked.
Lynn shook her head. "I really don't know. If we keep it secret for a while, and if Finnegan gets disillusioned with Ophelia, it might hurt less. It could be a good thing."
Lynn remembered coming back from abroad, determined to win Finnegan over, only to find him devoted to Ophelia. She gave up because she wanted undivided love, no flaws.
But now, she never expected this.
Warmie was taken to the Abbott estate. Finnegan wandered outside and came home late. It was already midnight.
He waited until it was this late to come back.
First thing he asked the nanny was, "Is Ophelia back?"
"Yeah," the nanny said. "She came back in the afternoon. Warmie was taken to the estate, and Mrs. Celia Abbott said she'd stay there for a few days."
"Okay," Finnegan responded lightly and went upstairs.
He stopped in front of Lily's room but didn't knock. He just stood there for a while before going to his own bedroom.
Inside, Lily knew Finnegan was outside the door from the footsteps. They were just one door apart. He didn't dare to go in, and she didn't dare to open the door.
She didn't want to face Finnegan and just wanted to drag it out until he was willing to divorce.
In the following days, Lily and Finnegan were in a complete cold war. They lived under the same roof but had no interaction.
Finnegan was afraid of hearing "divorce" from Lily again, and Lily was afraid of seeing the sadness in Finnegan's eyes.
In no time, it was the eve of Tate's return banquet, and Finnegan got an invitation. Tate called to invite him.
Finnegan said he'd definitely attend.
At the Stewart family.
Tomorrow was the return banquet, and Barbara happily took out suits for Tate to try on.
"Tate, I picked one for you, and Raymond picked one. This white suit was chosen by your dad. See which one you like."
