Chapter 721 Unfair

Tate didn't want to deal with Karen and headed into the house. But thinking about Caspian, she knew Karen would find out eventually, and their conflict would only get worse.

Tate retorted, "Where were you just now?"

She stared at Karen, her gaze sharp.

Barbara noticed Karen had changed clothes, meaning she'd been up for a while. Normally, Karen would sleep in until around ten, but it wasn't even nine yet.

Feeling guilty, Karen's eyes darted around, but she still kept calm and smiled. "I went out to buy something. Since you're back, I got you a gift. I bought you some flowers."

Karen really did buy flowers, just for show.

She went to get the flowers. "Tate, these are for you."

Eugene and Barbara felt gratified, seeing Tate and Karen getting along. As parents, they were naturally happy.

Tate accepted them. "Thanks."

"Time to eat," Barbara said. "Karen, Tate must be hungry; she hasn't had breakfast yet."

No one had eaten; they had all gone to pick up Tate early in the morning.

The housekeeper had already prepared a big breakfast. As the family sat down, Tate said, "Mom, Dad, Raymond, I propose a toast to you all."

Karen chimed in, and Tate played along for their parents' sake, appearing close to Karen.

Raymond said, "Yes, let's all have a drink as a family."

Eugene smiled. "Yes, let's drink. We should celebrate."

Barbara raised her glass. "Today, Tate is back. I'm so happy."

Karen said, "Congrats, Tate."

The family clinked glasses and enjoyed a lively breakfast.

After the meal, Barbara pulled Tate aside to discuss the homecoming party or if Tate had any requests.

Tate never had many material demands. Before she could speak, Karen said, "Mom, Tate has suffered a lot in the past and hasn't enjoyed many good things. This time, we must give her the best."

This was a veiled jab at Tate's past poverty. Karen still didn't know what Tate used to do, thinking she came from remote countryside.

Barbara didn't catch Karen's insinuation, and Tate couldn't be bothered to argue. She said, "Mom, you and Karen can decide. I'm going out to see a friend and will be back later."

Barbara casually asked, "Are you going to see Caspian?"

Hearing Caspian's name, Karen's expression changed. 'Was Tate going to see Caspian?' she thought.

Karen looked at Tate again, and Barbara realized she had said too much. Worried that Tate might be upset, Barbara smiled and said, "Go have fun with your friend. It's good to be cheerful and make more friends."

As a parent, one should have boundaries. Asking about their children's social circles can be inappropriate. Barbara was thoughtful, but Tate didn't mind and explained, "I'm not going to see Caspian. It's an old friend. I didn't get a chance to see her last time I was back. It's Ophelia."

Hearing Ophelia's name, Barbara felt relieved and smiled. "Then go ahead, be safe. I heard Ophelia had a close call with a typhoon a year ago. You should go to see her."

"Okay, I'm off then."

After Tate left, Karen immediately asked Barbara, "Mom, didn't you tell me before that Caspian had a bad reputation? Why didn't you say anything when Tate wanted to see Caspian?"

Whether or not Tate was going to see Caspian, Barbara hadn't objected earlier.

Barbara felt a bit awkward, knowing Karen also liked Caspian, which made things difficult. "Karen, love is a wild ride. It's all about destiny. Caspian and Tate seem like a good fit. Today, Caspian raced through a bunch of red lights to get to Tate's place. Your dad checked out Caspian and he's not half bad.."

"What? Caspian went to pick up Tate?" Karen was incredulous. 'I have given Caspian such a heavy dose of drugs; how could he still go there?' Karen was baffled.

She had called the hotel, and Caspian hadn't checked out.

Karen thought God was unfair to her. She couldn't understand why Caspian liked Tate, not her.

After boss's baby, she Escape
