Chapter 34 Deception

Ophelia's heart started to race; she was incredibly nervous.
She had said all that because she truly thought she was going to die. Had he heard her? Had he really heard her? Ophelia quickly played dumb, counter-asking, "What did I say?"
Actually, Finnegan hadn't heard anything she was saying at all.
He was completely focused on controlling the car, so he didn't have the mind to listen to what Ophelia was saying. He just remembered something of the sort.
Finnegan just quietly looked at her.
This woman... she was acting again.
He also counter-asked, "What do you think?"
"Oh... I think I did say something." Ophelia continued to play dumb, saying, "I was so scared at the time, all I said was that I afraid of dying; I didn't want to die. Thankfully, we were lucky and nothing happened to us."
Finnegan stared at her with his deep eyes. There were quite a few blood stains on her clothes. He didn't press her anymore, "Are you hurt anywhere? You should get checked out now."
"I'm fine. I'm resilient. I didn't get hurt at all; the blood on my clothes is yours." Ophelia felt that she really had no problems, and she knew she couldn’t allow the hospital to run tests on her; otherwise, Finnegan would definitely find out about her pregnancy.
She thought it was best to keep her pregnancy a secret for as long as she could.
Finnegan's brows knitted slightly, "No matter how resilient you are, how could you possibly be fine after such a big accident? Get checked, the company will reimburse you."
"I really don't need to; I'm fine." Ophelia changed the subject, "Oh right, Mr. Abbott, Lina from Orchid Garden called earlier. I told her about your car accident, and there are several missed calls on your phone."
She didn't dare to, nor did she have the time to answer these missed calls. They were all from the Abbott family mansion.
Finnegan's voice was deep, "Give me the phone." If he didn't return a call, within an hour, people from the mansion would show up.
Ophelia quickly handed him the phone.
Finnegan called back to the mansion. The people there were already on their way out, but Finnegan sternly stopped them and ordered them back.
Ophelia was listening on the side. After Finnegan finished the call, she immediately helped him with the phone.
"Mr. Abbott, why don't you lie down and rest?" Finnegan nodded.
Ophelia got a pillow, propped it behind Finnegan's back, and adjusted the hospital bed to a higher position.
Finnegan felt quite pleased as he watched her fuss over him while looking very nervous.
"Miss Sinclair, why were you crying just now?" Finnegan asked, "You seemed to say, 'what would I do if you died?' It appears that I'm quite important to you, Miss Sinclair. That's somewhat surprising."
Even if it were Atticus or Linda who had come with him today, they wouldn't have cried in such a situation, much less sobbed like Ophelia did.
To an outsider, it might seem like there was some special relationship between the two of them.
Thinking about her earlier behavior, Ophelia felt somewhat embarrassed. She had no idea how long Finnegan had been eavesdropping. Fortunately, she hadn’t mentioned the baby.
Ophelia decided to throw him some compliments, "Of course, you are very important to me. Mr. Abbott."
"Oh?" Finnegan was interested, "Tell me, how important?"
Ophelia explained, "I was on a business trip with you. If I returned safe and sound, but something happened to you, would your family let me off the hook? I wouldn't be able to continue living in City A; I might be blacklisted by the Abbott family, perhaps they would even force me to pay with my life."
Ophelia spoke as if it was a serious matter. Finnegan glanced at her indifferently, "So that's how it is. It seems that you are actually very afraid of death, Miss Sinclair."
He said this, but he didn't fully believe it. He only half believed her.
"Life is all we have, of course I cherish it." Ophelia pulled up a chair and sat down. She had been running around for most of the day and was tired. She didn't care about hierarchy at the moment.
As images of the car accident popped into her mind, Ophelia asked with lingering fear, "Mr. Abbott, why did you choose to crash into the tree on your side of the car?"
It would have been safer if he had crashed the passenger side.
Finnegan also thought about it. People's instinct should be to protect themselves. He didn't know why he chose to turn the steering wheel sharply and hit the tree on his side.
Finnegan didn't have an answer to that.
Finnegan responded indifferently, "I didn't think that much."
After boss's baby, she Escape
