Chapter 657 Susan Loses Her Temper
Susan delivered two slaps in quick succession, shattering Lloyd's dignity and authority at Moonlight Gate, in front of his subordinates.
The subordinates nearby all kept their heads down, not daring to look.
When Susan got angry, it was quite terrifying; it was the authority of a mother.
Lloyd's face turned ashen, and he ordered his subordinates harshly, "Get out, all of you."
The subordinates still didn't dare to lift their heads, quickly leaving and closing the door behind them to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
Once everyone had left, only Susan and Lloyd remained in the room.
Susan sat down directly, exuding the authority of an elder. Her cloudy eyes were sharp, and her wrinkled face showed no trace of fear.
"Lloyd, ain't you itching to avenge your real folks? Well, go ahead, pull that trigger. End me, the one who poured her heart and soul into raising you. Toss me in the ocean to feed the fish. Just do it."
Susan's voice was like a bell, her momentum overwhelming, commanding respect without anger, every word resounding with power.
Lloyd, provoked to anger, drew his gun and aimed it at Susan's forehead. "Susan, do you really think I don't dare to kill you?"
Hearing Lloyd call her by name again, Susan raised her hand and slapped him once more. "I failed to educate you properly. Addressing me by name, you have no respect and gratitude. I will educate you right now."
Three slaps had already pushed Lloyd's anger to the peak. He cocked the gun, filled with murderous intent. "Su... Mrs. Abbott, don't think I wouldn't dare."
A sharp look from Susan made Lloyd change his words mid-sentence, instinctively altering his address.
Realizing he was backing down in front of Susan, Lloyd felt another surge of anger.
His fear of Susan stemmed from his youth.
Susan had been very strict back then. Any child of the Abbott family who made a mistake would be punished, dealt with by family rules.
Susan stood up, directly pressing her forehead against the gun barrel, staring at Lloyd. "If you have the guts, pull the trigger today."
Lloyd was ready to pull the trigger, but seeing Susan's wrinkled face, he recalled how she had nursed him through a bad case of smallpox, not giving a damn about catching it herself.
He remembered when he was a mischievous child, he fell from a tree and broke his leg. The doctor said he would never walk again, but Susan didn't believe it. She forced him to train every day, and it took a year for him to walk again.
Behind Susan's strictness was all her love for Lloyd.
Susan treated him like her own son.
There were many such instances. Whether he caused trouble outside or was bullied, Susan always stood up for him. If he caused trouble, Susan covered for him. If he was bullied, Susan sought justice for him.
Thinking of these things, Lloyd's hand trembled. He slowly lowered the gun. "Mrs. Abbott, letting you die like this would be too easy. My father was despised by others, and I want you to taste that same contempt."
"Your father was despised because he betrayed the country. He deserved it," Susan retorted, her words sharp and unyielding.
"He didn't want to betray the country; you all forced him to," Lloyd said, his thoughts extreme. "He was a Rivonia man. What was wrong with him working for Rivonia? Why did you force him to a dead end? It was all your doing."
Susan, full of disappointment, shook her head. "You're a scoundrel. Don't bring up those old matters."
Susan's fury ignited further. "These grudges are from decades past, when you were but a child. Do you even remember what your parents looked like? It was I who nurtured you. Show some respect. What revenge are you seeking, you ungrateful fool? If revenge is your aim, then repay me for the twenty years I devoted to raising you."
