Chapter 77 Be His Girlfriend

Finnegan's deep gaze locked onto her, taking a step forward and causing Ophelia to instinctively move back, her body against the door. There was nowhere left to retreat.

His hands in his pockets, a teasing smile playing on his lips, he asked, "Are you sure you want to hear my explanation here?"

Ophelia detected a threatening tone in his voice.

Swallowing hard, she fished out her keys, rationalizing that Finnegan was a public figure and surely wouldn't harm her. With some bravado, she unlocked the door.

Finnegan stepped inside and glanced around the rental, his first impression being its small size.

The apartment was tiny, barely 200 square feet without a separate bedroom - the bed and dining area coexisted in the same space.

There was a modest kitchen.

Though small, the apartment was clean and tidy, with a faint pleasant scent in the air.

Watching Finnegan survey the place, Ophelia felt a bit embarrassed. 'After all, the place is so compact that his bathroom is probably bigger,' she thought.

In A City, rent was exorbitant. Even for such a small space, it cost her three thousand a month.

She used to share a two-bedroom apartment with Seraphina, but living alone now, there was no need for somewhere bigger.

"Mr. Abbott, would you like some water?" Ophelia changed into slippers and set down her bag.

There was no coffee in the house, nor fruit juice or even fruit - tap water was the only thing available.

"Don’t trouble yourself," Finnegan said, seating himself on a small couch - besides the bed, it was the only thing in the apartment that could claim some size.

There were two small stools, and Finnegan, with his towering frame, found sitting on them quite inconvenient.

Ophelia glanced at Finnegan, unable to fathom what had brought him here.

Taking the direct approach, she asked, "Mr. Abbott, what can I do for you?"

Finnegan pulled out a cigarette from his bag, intent on lighting it, but reconsidering the action in the small, pleasantly scented room. He chose not to cloud the air and instead just fiddled with his lighter.

With Finnegan silent, Ophelia became even more curious. "Mr. Abbott?"

Suddenly blunt, Finnegan stated, "Ophelia, would you consider being my girlfriend?"

Ophelia felt as if she had turned to stone, wondering if she had misheard.

'Is Finnegan seeking me out in the dead of night, just to ask her to be his girlfriend?' Ophelia thought.

This was so unexpected.

Stunned, Ophelia replied, "Mr. Abbott, are you alright? This... this isn't right."

Looking at her solemnly and seriously, Finnegan confessed, "In the months since you've been gone, I couldn't shake the thought of you, and my desire only grew stronger. That's why I'm here, Ophelia. I can give you time to think about it."

Shocked, Ophelia realized Finnegan was actually baring his heart to her.

Everything seemed so surreal.

It was as if she had stepped into the clichéd plot of a romance novel—'Arrogant CEO Falls for Me'.

Such melodrama, now unfolding in her own life.

Had she done anything to give him the wrong idea?

‘Can Caspian Hawthorne have been telling the truth?' Ophelia thought.

Ophelia, stumbling over her words, managed, "Y-you, Mr. Abbott, want me to be your... lover?"

"Not a lover, a girlfriend," Finnegan corrected her, "An official girlfriend."

Dumbstruck and bewildered, she asked, "Then what of your lady at Orchid Garden, Miss Kingsley?"

Referring to Seraphina, Finnegan clarified, "She was never my girlfriend. Some misunderstandings led her to stay at Orchid Garden for a while, but she moved out long ago. I never claimed her as my girlfriend."

Seraphina had moved out of Orchid Garden?

Ophelia was once again taken aback. How had she not heard the news?

She had blocked Seraphina on social media, but Seraphina hadn't tried reaching out to Magnus either.

Where had Seraphina gone?

True, Finnegan never openly declared that Seraphina was his girlfriend. Ophelia had only heard it through the grapevine from people like Atticus, Linda, and Seraphina herself.

Everyone seemed to assume that Seraphina was Finnegan’s significant other.

"Where did Seraphina go?" Ophelia pressed. "When did she move out?"

"She left a few months ago. Where she went is none of my concern," Finnegan said with an air of nonchalance. "Ophelia, perhaps you should consider the offer I made earlier."

Had Ophelia not known about Seraphina and Finnegan, she might have agreed to give it a shot with Finnegan. For his skills in the bedroom alone, it seemed worth a try.

The man proposing to her was Finnegan, the man at the helm of Abbott’s Corporation.

To say she felt nothing for him would be a lie.
