Chapter 700 Returning to Calm
Finnegan joined Lily for breakfast. Wilder hadn't said much to her before Finnegan took her out.
Ophelia used to love hitting up food streets in college towns. The food was always cheap and plentiful.
Finnegan drove Lily to their old house. "Ophelia, does this place ring a bell?"
They had lived there together for over two years. Finnegan hoped it might jog some memories.
Lily shook her head. "No."
She had been there before, standing outside and looking at the yard. It felt familiar, but no specific memories came to mind.
"It's okay," Finnegan said with a smile. "We'll go somewhere else."
Next stop was the food street, not far from their old house.
Finnegan took Lily there. They walked from one end to the other, and he excitedly shared stories from the past.
Listening to all the stories, Lily felt a pang of envy. "Your wife is so lucky to have met you."
"You are my wife," Finnegan said, holding her hand. "Ophelia, do you remember our business trip to Starview? We had a car accident, and you were terrified I might die. You cried your heart out. That’s when I knew you had feelings for me. You have no idea how happy that made me."
Thinking about the past, a smile spread across Finnegan's face. Every moment with Ophelia was a beautiful memory.
Lily looked at their clasped hands. She wanted to pull away but couldn't bring herself to do it. In the end, she let Finnegan hold her hand.
"Did we get together after that?" Lily asked.
"No," Finnegan said, walking with her down the food street, smiling. "You were stubborn and wouldn't admit it was you that night. We went through a lot of misunderstandings, and then there was Seraphina, who pretended to be you. Later, I remembered it was you that night and asked you to be with me."
Lily was curious. "Did I agree then?"
Finnegan recalled the night he went to Ophelia's apartment and asked her to be his girlfriend.
That night, theyshould had sex.
"No," Finnegan said with a slight smile. "The bed frame broke that night."
If it weren't for the cheap bed, they might have gotten together sooner.
"The bed frame broke?" Lily sensed the intimacy in those words.
The word "bed" alone was enough to spark imagination.
Finnegan smiled without saying anything.
Lily pressed on, "So how did we end up together?"
Finnegan held Lily's hand tightly and walked forward. "It was when Oscar caused trouble and I got hurt. You felt sorry for me and finally confessed your feelings."
"How romantic," Lily said, feeling envious.
"You once said you wanted to see mountains, rivers, grasslands, and snowy peaks. Now we have all the time in the world. I can take you," Finnegan said. "Ophelia, it's not too late."
"Okay," Lily agreed.
While Finnegan was helping Lily recover her memories, Tate was back in prison serving her sentence.
With a reduced sentence, she had a little over a year left before she could be released.
Meanwhile, Niamh also faced her final judgment in prison.
Niamh's child was sent to an orphanage and adopted.
After killing several people, she was sentenced to death.
On the day of her execution, it snowed heavily. Niamh was terrified; she didn't want to die.
Finnegan had long received the news of Niamh's execution. This day had been a long time coming.
If it weren't for Niamh's pregnancy, she would have been sent to hell to atone for her sins long ago.
In the days that followed, Finnegan visited Lily every day. Lily still preferred to stay with the Parks family rather than return to the Abbott family with Finnegan.
Lily would spend time with Warmie. Warmie had developed a habit of lying in Lily's arms, resting her head on Lily's chest, and calling her "Mom."
In Lily's arms, Warmie was well-behaved and quiet. She always called her "Mom" and gradually became very attached to Lily.
Celia smiled and said, "This is the natural bond between mother and daughter. Even if Ophelia doesn't remember the past, the bloodline can't be changed."
"It's normal for children to rely on their mom," Jude comforted. "Whether Ophelia remembers or not is no longer important."
