Chapter 650 Susan's Stroke
When Carl came to the office to find Lynn, he discovered she had been drinking.
He stepped forward and grabbed the glass. "Lynn, what's wrong?"
Carl's voice was gentle and full of concern.
During class, Lynn would never drink unless she was in an extremely bad mood.
She had struggled with alcoholism in the past but had been sober for years. Carl didn't understand why she was drinking again now.
Carl guessed and asked, "Is it because Finnegan and Ophelia are getting married?"
Lynn slouched on the couch, eyes half shut, shaking her head, feeling all gloomy. "I figured out ages ago that he never really cared, but I just can't shake him off completely."
Carl sat next to her, letting her lean on his shoulder. "If he doesn't see your worth, that's on him. Lynn, if you're beat, take a breather. I've got your back, always."
Lynn had a bit to drink and had been busy all day, feeling physically and mentally exhausted. She leaned on Carl's shoulder and fell asleep without realizing it.
Carl sat still, keeping watch over her.
He had been looking after Lynn for almost ten years, and for the next ten, twenty years... he would always be there for her.
In his heart, Lynn had always been a radiant moon, a flawless goddess.
Ophelia returned home, thinking about the sadness in Lynn's eyes. She really wanted to know what Lynn was hiding in her heart.
'Could it be that besides dissing Lynn back then, Celia pulled some other shady move?' she pondered.
"Ophelia, what are you thinking about?"
Finnegan appeared behind her at some point. Ophelia snapped out of her thoughts and said, "I went to see Lynn this afternoon. I feel like she has a lot on her mind. Did Celia do something else to her back then?"
To make up for Lynn, Finnegan never refused to help her as long as it wasn't a matter of principle.
"Why do you say that? Did Lynn say something?" Finnegan really didn't know anything else.
Because of Lynn, his relationship with Celia had deteriorated, only improving somewhat this year.
"She claimed she'd never have kids in this life because she didn't feel like giving it another shot. I reckon it's more complicated than that."
A woman's intuition was very accurate. Ophelia felt that Lynn must be hiding something.
But Ophelia wasn't easily fooled either.
"If Lynn's up for a chat, she'll speak up. If not, asking won't make a difference." Finnegan stood behind her, resting his hands on her shoulders. "You've been going out less lately; it's sketchy out there."
Ophelia asked, "What happened?"
Finnegan said confidently, "Lloyd is almost back."
"Isn't he afraid of being caught? He's wanted globally, and he still dares to come?" Ophelia frowned. "What reason does he have to come back to Yorkhaven?"
"If there's no reason, then create one." Finnegan's lips curled coldly. "Susan as bait, he will definitely take the hook."
Ophelia was shocked. "Grandma Susan?"
Finnegan and Susan had agreed to use her as bait to lure Lloyd back to Yorkhaven.
Of course, Finnegan wouldn't let Susan be in danger. He had already prepared a double, just as a reason to lure Lloyd back to Yorkhaven.
And that reason was Susan's critical illness.
The very next day, Susan was admitted to the hospital, and the news of her critical condition quickly spread across major media outlets.
Susan had once been a prominent figure in the business world. Her critical condition naturally brought many people to the hospital to visit.
That afternoon, many people from the circle came to the hospital to visit. Finnegan and Jude were there taking care of Susan.
Susan was old and beyond treatment, and it was publicly announced that she had been hospitalized due to a brain hemorrhage. Even with timely rescue, her life was only temporarily saved.
Jude and Celia, who were unaware of the truth, cried their eyes out in the hospital. Many relatives of the Abbott family also came, and the hospital was filled with sorrow.
Photos of Susan in the ICU leaked out and trended online, with many people in the circle feeling pity.
Lloyd, who had been keeping an eye on the Abbott family from afar, also saw the news of Susan's critical condition due to a brain hemorrhage.
Lloyd's face fell. "Susan seriously sick? Nah, she can't check out now. If she goes like this, it's too quick and easy. She hasn't made up for what she did to my folks."
Lloyd muttered to himself, watching the news on TV. The reporter said that according to the doctor's diagnosis, Susan might not live for more than two days. He couldn't wait to return to Yorkhaven. He wanted to see Susan one last time in person.
