Chapter 689 A Step Too Late
Finnegan hugged Warmie and kissed her cheek. There was a spark in his eyes, a new hope for life.
After spending some time with Warmie, Finnegan handed her over to Lynn and left.
Lynn watched him go and muttered, "I hope that's really Ophelia. Otherwise, I don't know how you'll handle it."
A person could be thrown into hell once, but not twice.
Finnegan headed to the police station, checked some records, and followed the cops to find the bike owner.
Meanwhile, Lily had packed her bags. She said goodbye to her family, and Gavin rode his motorcycle to take her to the airport.
On the way, Lily made a stop at the cemetery.
Gavin parked at the entrance and walked with Lily inside.
Lily reached a tombstone and placed a bouquet of flowers in front of it. "I'm going to Yorkhaven. You saved my life. Thank you. I'll fulfill your last wish."
After paying her respects, Lily left with Gavin.
At the airport, Gavin looked worried. "Lily, call me if you need anything. If you can't get used to it there, come back. No matter what, you'll always be my sister. Dylan and I will be here waiting for you."
Lily hugged Gavin, smiling. "Come on, you're already a grown man. Thanks, Gavin."
"Lily," Gavin said, reluctant but knowing he couldn't stop her. "Stay safe. If you run out of money, let me know."
"Okay." Lily let go, picked up her luggage, and headed towards security.
She didn't belong here. Her heart told her she needed to return to Yorkhaven.
Lily passed through security and boarded the plane. She looked into the distance, placed her hand over her heart, and whispered, "I'm going home."
Finnegan found the motorcycle owner and learned the motorcycle had been lent to a friend's son.
When Finnegan and the police arrived at the Cooper family, Gavin had just returned from dropping off Lily.
Seeing the police, Gavin asked, "Who are you looking for?"
Finnegan turned and immediately recognized Gavin as the guy with Ophelia last night.
Finnegan controlled his emotions and asked, "Are you Gavin? Where's the girl who was with you at the night market last night? Where is she?"
"Are you looking for Lily?" Gavin asked. "Who are you, and why are you looking for her?"
"Lily?" Finnegan pressed. "Where is she?"
"She's gone," Gavin said. "What do you want with Lily? Officer, Lily hasn't done anything wrong."
The police said, "No, this gentleman's wife is missing. The woman with you last night looks a lot like his wife, so we're here to confirm."
Gavin quickly understood and glanced at Finnegan. So this was the guy.
Gavin composed himself and said, "Then you've got it wrong. Lily isn't married. She can't be the one you're looking for, and she's already left. I just came back from dropping her off at the airport."
Hearing she had left, Finnegan asked excitedly, "Where did she go?"
"Yorkhaven," Gavin lied. "She went to Yorkhaven for work. Anyway, Lily isn't the person you're looking for. She's not married. Stop spreading rumors and ruining her reputation."
Going to Yorkhaven was true, but going for work was a lie.
Gavin knew Lily's real reason for going to Yorkhaven.
Finnegan stared at Gavin. "I want Lily's contact info."
"You're weirdWhy should I tell you?" Gavin retorted. "Officer, this man is slandering and harassing Lily. Can I sue him?"
Seeing this, the police quickly advised Finnegan, "Mr. Abbott, calm down. Maybe we really got it wrong. Let's keep investigating."
Gavin ignored Finnegan and went inside.
After a few steps, he sensed Finnegan staring at him. He stopped, turned around, and said loudly, "If you want to find Lily, go to Yorkhaven. She's not here. You're a step too late. Whether you meet her or not depends on your luck."
Gavin's words had a deeper meaning, and Finnegan's eyes narrowed. "You know me?"
From Gavin's words, he felt that Gavin knew him and seemed to know he would come looking.
Gavin said nothing more and went inside.
