Chapter 671 The Monastery

Even when the blanket was yanked off, Finnegan didn't move.

He had completely given up.

Lynn felt helpless. She wasn't one to get angry easily, and after her outburst, she quickly calmed down.

"Finnegan, it's been ages since Ophelia went missing, and there's no body. As her husband, you should at least give her a grave," Lynn said. "Let her have a resting place."

Hearing about the grave, Finnegan finally opened his eyes. He couldn't admit that Ophelia wasn't dead. He knew it would be self-deception.

The typhoon had ravaged the city, causing many casualties, especially those at sea.

If it weren't for Harold risking his life to save him, he would have been buried at sea too.

Seeing that he reacted, Lynn continued, "Warmie hasn't been held by her dad for a long time. How about I bring her in? Warmie can call 'Mom' now."

Finnegan shook his head. He didn't want to see Warmie; he felt too ashamed to face her.

He realized he had been too stubborn, thinking he had everything under control, setting a trap to lure Lloyd out, which led to Ophelia's accident.

This incident completely shattered Finnegan's confidence, making him lose faith in everything.

Lynn didn't understand what Finnegan meant. She didn't speak, and he remained motionless.

After a long while, Finnegan said hoarsely, "I killed Ophelia."

He blamed himself for causing Ophelia's death.

Lynn got it. "But you've got a lot of life left. You can't let Warmie lose both parents. Susan's getting old, and your folks never took charge. If you go, what happens to them?"

"The world will keep spinning without me." Finnegan shrugged, not caring about the Abbott family's future.

He only lived to make sure Warmie still had a dad.

Lynn couldn't change his mind.

After that, Finnegan left the hospital. Back home, everything reminded him of Ophelia.

He imagined her in the kitchen, asking, "What do you want to eat?"

He saw her running down the stairs, saying, "You're back."

He pictured her comforting Warmie, "Warmie, you're so good today."

To Finnegan, the house was full of Ophelia's presence.

He sent away the driver, the nanny, and John. He sat alone in the empty living room, night after night.

His face was scruffy, and his hair had turned gray. When Raymond visited, he was shocked to see the disheveled, gray-haired man in his thirties was Finnegan.

Seeing Raymond, Finnegan opened the door and went back to packing.

"If you came a bit later, I'd be gone," Finnegan said.

"Where are you going?" Raymond asked.

Finnegan didn't say much. He hadn't set up a grave for Ophelia, and after being discharged, he hadn't seen Warmie.

"Finnegan, I'm really sorry," Raymond said, coming to apologize.

He owed Finnegan an apology. As a cop, he hadn't protected the citizens.

Finnegan stayed silent, making Raymond feel awkward.

After packing his bags, Finnegan finally told Raymond, "If there's nothing else, I'm leaving."

Raymond had nothing more to say.

Finnegan left with just his clothes and a photo of him and Ophelia.

He took a cab to the airport, leaving behind his luxury car, villa, company, and family.

He left a note for his family: "Grandma, please take care of Warmie for me. Don't look for me. I'll be fine."

The note was for Susan.

Susan had raised Finnegan and was now raising Warmie. With Susan's care, Finnegan wasn't worried about Warmie.

With no attachments, he could finally do what he wanted.

Finnegan flew a helicopter to where Ophelia had her accident. He hovered over the sea for a long time, the scene from that night still clear in his mind.

Maybe it was an illusion, but he thought he saw Ophelia waving at him from the sea. When he got closer, it was just the waves.

Finnegan stayed by the sea for a day before heading to a monastery.

And just like that, he disappeared from the public eye.

Later, Susan found out Finnegan was at the monastery. Celia and Jude wanted to go find him, but Susan stopped them. "Let him be."
