Chapter 459 Just an End
Every question from Finnegan was the most critical and dubious.
Ophelia sat beside Finnegan, not interrupting, leaving it to him to handle. She trusted him to handle it well.
Landon said, "We have such doubts too. According to Rex's confession, the poison came from a friend of his at the club. Due to the time gap, there is evidence of his absence, clearing his suspicion."
Landon continued, "Rex enjoys watching detective movies and has some anti-detection abilities. There are marks of being hit on the back of Magnus' head with a stick. After being hit by Rex, Magnus lost consciousness, then forcibly fed alcohol and pushed off the rooftop. From the video provided by witnesses, it can be seen that Magnus was unconscious at that time."
Every doubt had a reasonable explanation.
Finnegan didn't ask any more questions. The cases of Seraphina and Magnus were linked together, and Rex alone could take on all the blame.
Rex did all of this, but was anyone else behind it? That was unknown.
Finnegan thought of Deacon, but for now, he couldn't figure out what role Deacon played in all of this.
Seraphina and Magnus should not have a direct connection to Deacon.
When Ophelia and Finnegan came out of the police station, they met Tobias and Riley at the door again.
Riley was crying while Tobias was reproaching her, "Stop crying! We didn't get a penny, and now we have to hire a lawyer. How can we afford to get a lawyer?"
"Magnus is gone, Tobias. That's your son. How can you be so heartless?" Riley cried. "It's because of you that Magnus left hometown, or else this wouldn't have happened."
"Don't blame me. What does it have to do with me? He left quietly on his own. We couldn't find him even if we tried. He abandoned us, so he got punished!"
"Tobias, are you even slightly ashamed of what you just said?" Ophelia couldn't bear it and retorted, "Magnus just died, and you care only about compensation. Will you really not be afraid of your punishment if spending the compensation for your son's life?"
Tobias saw Finnegan standing next to Ophelia and got scared.
Finnegan looked quite commanding. Tobias was just a bully who feared someone stronger than him. He was getting old and couldn't fight with the younger generation.
Tobias kept quiet, and Ophelia didn't want to waste more time.
Riley shamelessly said, "Mrs. Abbott, can you help with Magnus' funeral? He grew up in New York, unfamiliar with his hometown. He was not used to it so that I wouldn't take him back for burial. Can you find a place here for him to be buried?"
Tobias remained silent, hoping Ophelia would handle the funeral. A funeral cost money, and Tobias didn't want to or couldn't afford it.
Ophelia had already planned to bury Magnus in New York.
"Sure. Leave Magnus's funeral arrangements to me."
Considering they were Magnus' parents after all and that Magnus was gentle and wouldn't want to see his parents neglect him, Ophelia asked Finnegan, "The wallet?"
Understanding Ophelia's intention, Finnegan fetched the wallet from the car and handed it to Ophelia.
Ophelia took out one thousand dollars from the wallet and handed it to Riley. "Take it. You'll need it for food and lodging in New York. After Magnus' funeral, I'll buy you tickets back."
Knowing Tobias' greed, Ophelia didn't give them too much, but out of respect for Magnus, she provided the basic security for the two in New York.
Tobias's face softened a bit when he saw the money. He said, "Mrs. Abbott, you are such a sincere friend to Magnus. Do you know any lawyers? Please help us hire one to ensure that the person who killed Magnus will compensate."
Ophelia ignored Tobias, and Riley gratefully said, "Mrs. Abbott, thank you."
"Take care of yourself."
With that, Ophelia directly walked towards Finnegan, and they got into the car.
Tobias was still shouting, "Mrs. Abbott, help us get a lawyer."
