Chapter 168 Plotting Against Ophe
Seraphina had been waiting for Ophe to be dumped, but she didn't expect that they would get married so quickly and even obtain a marriage certificate. Magnus said, "It's true, Ophe got married. It is a good thing, and it puts my mind at ease. It shows that Finnegan truly loves Ophe; otherwise, they wouldn't have gotten the certificate."
"Is Finnegan crazy? How could he marry Ophe? Why?" Seraphina really couldn't accept it. The title of Mrs. Abbott, which she had always desired, now belonged to Ophe.
Seraphina was too overwhelmed with emotions, and her voice became sharp. The dream of marrying into a wealthy family, Ophe had achieved it. And Ophe married Finnegan, the person in charge of Abbott's Corporation, worth billions of dollars.
Just the thought of Ophe and Finnegan obtaining the marriage certificate drove Seraphina crazy.
Magnus frowned and said, "Seraphina, Ophe has found happiness, and that's a good thing. It also shows that there are things that are not meant for you, and you can't force them. What belongs to someone was certain. Your luggage is all here, so take care of yourself from now on."
Magnus carried Seraphina's belongings to the door. He wasn't stupid to know why Seraphina was moving out at this time. He wouldn't force her because he understood her.
He would handle family matters himself without burdening others.
Seraphina hesitated. She glanced at Tobias, who was sitting inside watching TV; Riley, who was peeling the skin of a peach for her eldest granddaughter, Serenity; and Jett's occasional coughing from the bedroom. The smell of medicine in this house was strong and suffocating.
Seraphina pulled Magnus aside and whispered, "Magnus, don't be too naïve. Your parents are clearly biased. They haven't raised you, yet now they expect you to support them. Why should you? You don't owe them anything. It's already enough to support them, and now you have a paralyzed brother and a five-year-old niece. How are you going to survive on a meager salary in New York?"
Even Seraphina felt a bit guilty taking advantage of Magnus in this situation.
Magnus said, "I know that you need to take care of yourself, Seraphina. It's important to stay grounded. Don't worry, and I'll figure out a way to handle your debt."
"Whatever, just focus on yourself. You already have enough troubles," Seraphina muttered in a slightly dissatisfied tone. "Ophe just had the effortless success. Being pretty was beneficial."
Magnus sighed, "Seraphina, do you really think Finnegan would easily choose a wife? There are plenty of women who are prettier than Ophe, and as someone of Finnegan's status, he could have any woman he wanted."
"Then why did he choose Ophe?" Seraphina needed clarification.
Magnus said, "After all these years of knowing Ophe, haven't you noticed any of her other qualities?"
Seraphina couldn't think of any other qualities Ophe had besides being pretty.
Magnus continued. "If it were Ophe under these circumstances, she would not leave. It's as simple as that."
Upon hearing this, Seraphina blushed with embarrassment and said, "I... Magnus, I just felt like it was inappropriate for me to disturb you here. I didn't want to burden you."
It was just an excuse.
Magnus smiled with relief. "Seraphina, let's go. I don't blame you. It's the sensible choice."
He truly didn't blame Seraphina.
But this was also the difference between Seraphina and Ophe. People of high status like Finnegan don't prioritize looks when choosing a wife; rather, they prioritize their character.
They want a woman who will never leave them, who will treat them sincerely, and who will accompany them through thick and thin.
Seraphina needed to have these points. If Finnegan were to go bankrupt one day, Seraphina would definitely run away.
Thinking about Magnus' situation, Seraphina made up her mind and left. If she stayed sympathetic, she would be faced with an abyss and could never escape poverty.
Carrying her luggage, Seraphina left the hood and took a taxi back to her current rental house. With the money Magnus gave her, she rented a small one-bedroom apartment.
As soon as Seraphina arrived at the doorstep, ready to unlock the door, a group of strong men emerged from the corridor. She immediately ran, but one of the men grabbed her hair and pulled her back.
The man threatened. "Seraphina, it's time for you to pay your debt. If you don't pay today, I'll chop off your hands."
In a terrified mood, Seraphina quickly said, "I'll pay the debt. I have a friend who married into a wealthy family. She has enough money to help me repay."
