Chapter 451 Intentionally Caught
Finnegan didn't leave immediately. He first went to the morgue to see Magnus. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to explain to Ophelia when he got back.
Finnegan understood that Ophelia must be very concerned about Magnus's at the moment.
Accompanied by the staff, Finnegan saw Magnus in the morgue.
The blood stains on Magnus's body had been cleaned up, making him look clean and less terrifying.
However, Magnus's face and neck were scratched by the fall from a height.
When Finnegan arrived, the coroner had just left for a while. It was said that there would be another autopsy later. There was a preliminary suspicion of murder, but concrete evidence was needed.
Finnegan only stayed in the morgue for a short while before coming out. He was feeling anxious about Ophelia at the hospital, and after ensuring he had something to tell her, he left.
In the interrogation room, Landon began questioning Rex. Rex was tight-lipped, not admitting to seeing Magnus or knowing about Magnus's death.
Seeing Rex uncooperative, Landon said sternly, "Rex, cooperate honestly. Cooperation benefits you in sentencing. You say you don’t know Magnus, but you must know Seraphina. Why did you bring coffee to Seraphina? What's your relationship with her?"
"Seraphina?" Rex pondered for a moment as if just remembering. "I was just playing around, a guy and a girl. I was single and pursuing her, giving her gifts to please her. Do the police care about this, too?"
"Seraphina is dead. She died of poisoning after being taken into custody."
Rex causally asked, "Mr. Benedict, why did you arrest me? Do you also want to blame Seraphina's death on me? Is this how the police solve cases? Do you want to pin all the blame on me?"
"Rex, don't try to argue. We have evidence. Tell me the truth. What were you doing at the CC Club last night?" Landon said sternly, "We sent people to your rental house. Everything was cleaned up. You clearly intended to flee."
"I work there. It's normal for me to be there. I've already said I was traveling. How does that mean I wanted to flee?" Rex continued to defend himself. "What evidence do you have that proves I killed Magnus? He fell from the rooftop after drinking too much. What does that have to do with me?"
Landon sneered, "You claim not to know Magnus and never seen him, so how do you know he fell from the rooftop after drinking too much?"
Landon never mentioned how Magnus died.
At this, Rex's face briefly showed panic, and he stammered, "I heard about it. It's such a big deal. Someone died. I'm an employee there, so it's normal to hear that."
Landon stared at Rex and realized through the interrogation that Rex was quite good at arguing.
Slamming the table, Landon said forcefully, "Rex, you're lying. We sealed off the scene last night. You said you left the club early last night, so how did you know? You said you were going on a trip, but we checked that you made plans to have dinner with friends today. It's your birthday today. Why would you suddenly go on a trip?"
Nervously, Rex defended himself. "I felt like celebrating my birthday spontaneously. Can't I reward myself? Mr. Benedict, if you have evidence, arrest me. If not, release me."
At that moment, Landon's phone rang, indicating new clues. He warned, "Stay put here."
With that, Landon instructed his colleague to watch over him, then left himself.
Rex appeared restless, but it was only on the surface. Deep down, he was calm.
Last night, he had been sacrificed by Deacon and used as a scapegoat. Otherwise, the police would have eventually traced Seraphina's death back to Deacon.
Rex intentionally denied knowing Magnus, deliberately went to the station to give the police the impression that he was fleeing, and purposely left loopholes during the interrogation.
Someone had to take the blame for Magnus and Seraphina's deaths. With a terminal illness, Rex didn't have long to live. By doing this for Deacon, he could leave a large sum of money for his family, which could provide security for them, and Rex could finally be at peace.
